DJI Neo
Launch of the DJI Neo, broadens its range of beginner-friendly drones, introducing an exciting option for those new to piloting. The Neo stands out as the smallest and lightest drone in DJI’s lineup, designed specifically for novice pilots while still offering the high-quality features that DJI is renowned for. It can be purchased as a standalone drone or as part of the Fly More Combo, and a variety of accessories are also offered.

Family photos to social media, the Neo is a fantastic option for capturing aerial videos and images. Its lightweight design (just 4.8 oz) makes it easy to deploy anywhere. It’s so compact that you can take off and land it right from the palm of your hand. Once in the air, the ½” sensor can capture 12MP still images and record videos at 4K 30Fps resolution.
DJI has outfitted the Neo with RockSteady and Horizon Balancing technologies to address its compact size, along with Level 4 wind resistance. These features work together to minimize image shake and adjust the horizon tilt within +/-45 degrees. The ultra-stabilized footage is further improved with shooting capabilities usually found in higher-end models.

Smart Tracking and DirectionTrack use AI algorithms to enable the Neo to execute basic tracking shots from either behind or in front of a subject. The addition of QuickShots enhances simple tracking with more intricate aerial maneuvers. In each mode, the Neo keeps the target centered in the frame while automatically following pre-programmed flight paths. Pilots can select from six different modes: Dronie, Circle, Rocket, Spotlight, Helix, and Boomerang. Controlling the Neo can be done through traditional methods, such as the DJI Fly app on your smartphone, or by using an optional RC-N3, RC Motion 3, or FPV Remote Controller 3. The voice control feature is a new innovation for DJI. Simply say “Hey Fly” to activate the Neo, and then use a series of voice commands via the DJI Fly app to maneuver the drone.
Since the Neo is designed for beginners, DJI has implemented several safety measures to protect both the drone and its surroundings as new users practice. The four spinning propellers are fully enclosed with protective guards, and the drone also boasts Level 4 wind resistance along with an automatic return-to-home feature that assists in bringing the drone back when necessary.
With the launch of the Neo, those who were once hesitant about drones now have a highly accessible and user-friendly choice from one of the most reputable and established brands in the industry.
You can choose between the standard DJI Neo or the Neo Fly More Combo, which comes with two extra batteries, a two-way charging hub, and the RC-N3 remote. There are also various individual accessories available, such as an intelligent flight battery, two-way charging hub, RC-N3 remote, propellers, and propeller guards. The DJI Neo is affordable, but is this budget drone (AU$300) a dream for creators or just another gadget that overpromises? I’ve been testing the DJI Neo for the past few weeks, and I’m ready to share my insights, questions, and findings in this review. Weighing in at just 135 grams, this 4K drone features a single-axis gimbal, subject tracking, and six shooting modes that simplify drone flying. While it’s not a budget substitute for the DJI Mini 4 Pro, could it be the ideal choice for beginners and content creators on the go? You’ll enjoy 18 minutes of flight time, 40 minutes of 4K30fps video saved on 22GB of internal storage, and a design that’s perfect for travel. However, as you might expect with a drone at this price point, some compromises have been made. Let’s take a closer look at the new DJI Neo and see how it performs!
