One of the first steps to creating a foothold in Old Town is to get in the good graces of the local survivors. In the Power Gambit quest for Dying Light: The Beast, players will be going to the Castor Woods power station in hopes of getting the grid up and running again.
This is a somewhat lengthy quest with a few tricky parts, and the objectives are a little confusing since they force you to look around. This guide covers everything you need to do in this part of Dying Light The Beast’s main story quest.
Reaching the Power Station
The plant will be marked on your map, but once you get there, you’ll have to search the area. The foreman from Jacob’s group will try to talk you out of approaching the facility, but you can ignore him. Go to the building in the image above, then climb to the open window via the small shed building right next to it. Shimmy your way through the ledges there, and you’ll reach the window eventually.
Inside the building is Largo, and he’ll tell you that something blew up inside the main power building. He’s too afraid to go there himself, so it’s up to you to get things up and running again.
After the short dialogue, head back outside and go towards the adjacent building. Use the railings and pipes on the exterior to reach the open window marked by your quest marker. The climb here is a little treacherous, so be careful when you’re trying to jump across gaps or drop down to lower ledges. Once you get inside, you’ll need to prepare for combat and some puzzle work.
How to Drain the Water
Keep following your quest marker, and you’ll reach the main turbine hall. Unfortunately, the lower parts of the hall (where the actual turbines are) are flooded, and you’ll need to drain the water somehow before you can repair everything else.
Dive into the flooded area, then make your way to the next room. You’ll find a stream of bubbles coming from a busted pipe. Approach it, and your quest markers will update. Now, you need to shut off two pipes by turning a pair of valves. Both of them will be marked, so you don’t need to worry about getting lost underwater
There are air pockets above the big turbines. Use those to get a breather without having to swim back to the entrance.
Shutting off the valves will fix the leak, but it won’t make the floodwater go away. Now, you need to activate the pumps. Head back up to the main area, then go to the Control Room. Here, look for the Backup Generator room, then power the generator up by pressing its buttons.
You’ll need to connect the generator’s junction box to the one powering the pumps. To do this, move the large cabinet blocking a small vent nearby. Go through the vent with the power cable, and you should be able to attach it no problem.
Activate the Turbines
Now that the floodwater is gone, proceed back to the turbine room and activate the turbines. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough water to make the turbines work, so you’ll have to fix that too.
Go to Pipe 1C at the other end of the turbine room, then investigate the red pipe at the top. You’ll need a valve wrench to turn it, and to get one, head back to area A, then climb up the vent next to the locked Storage Room door. Grab the wrench, turn the valves at pipes 1C and 2C, then go back to the turbine controls to turn them on. Don’t forget to loot the Storage Room shelves for some valuable loot too.
Head back up and speak with Largo for a surprise. He’s actually one of the Baron’s men, and a large group of soldiers will try to take you back to the lab. Unfortunately for them, they will hit Kyle a little too much and cause him to go berserk. Use this opportunity to break everyone in sight, then fight off the rest of the Baron’s men as you make your way to the roof.
Melee soldiers will dodge or block your melee attacks. Your best bet at landing a hit against them is to block their attack at the right time, causing them to stagger. Otherwise, use ranged weapons or throwing knives.
After clearing the soldiers out, head back to the town hall and speak with the Sheriff and Jacob. Along the way, Pietro, the town hall’s handyman, will contact you about resetting power substations, but you don’t have to worry about that for now.
Dying Light: The Beast – Power Gambit Bug Fix
Players have reported that their game has gotten soft-locked after beating the soldiers at the end of the Power Gambit quest. If your quest isn’t progressing after taking everybody out, return to the main menu and load your game again. If you’re still stuck, get yourself killed through self-damage (or any other source of damage) to force a checkpoint reset.
