When you die in REPO, it doesn’t mean the game is over for you. Thanks to the Monster Update, you can now keep playing even after your semibot’s been scrapped. The Death Head Possession mechanic lets fallen players haunt the living, move their severed head around to distract monsters in REPO, and even talk to their surviving teammates using proximity chat. It’s a hilarious, slightly creepy way to stay useful even when you’re dead. To make the most of this mechanic, you need to understand the Death Head Battery upgrade in REPO.
Death Head Possession, Explained
Normally, when your semibot dies, you’re left as a motionless head that can’t move or talk. This changes completely with Death Head Possession.
Once your head’s eyes open, you can press E to possess it, switching from spectator mode to direct control. From there, you can hop around with the help of a spacebar, and you can speak through proximity voice chat, meaning nearby players can hear you. This turns your head into a functional (and talkative) little tool, perfect for warning teammates about danger, guiding them to extraction points, or distracting monsters.
How Does Death Head Battery Work in REPO
Death Head Possession runs on a limited power supply: your Death Head Battery. The battery determines how long you can move, speak, or haunt before your energy runs out. When you first die, your head needs to recharge, shown by your semibot’s eyes slowly opening. Once they’re wide open, your possession charge is full and ready to use.
The charge drains quickly, though, especially if you’re moving and talking at the same time. You’ll often find yourself waiting for it to recharge more than actually using it. The movement is slow and clunky, but still useful.
Since monsters in REPO react to sound, you can use your voice to lure them away from your living teammates. For example, if the Huntsman is nearby, your noisy head can act as bait, giving your team time to escape.
By default, your Death Head Battery is tiny. It only gives you a few seconds of movement and speech before it runs dry. That’s where the Death Head Battery Upgrade from the Service Station comes in. This upgrade extends your possession duration, meaning you can stay active longer between charges.
Upgrading doesn’t make the recharge faster; it still takes the same amount of time for your head to power back up. What it does is that it dramatically increases how long you can move or talk once charged. With multiple upgrades, you can keep haunting your surroundings for much longer.
This is especially useful in higher levels in REPO, where deaths are more common, and waiting to respawn can take a while. Instead of sitting idle, you can contribute to your team’s survival by calling out monster movements, marking safe routes, or distracting monsters.
