8 Episode Six – “Conditions Of The Knight”

While episode six may be the most relaxed and slow-paced episode of the season so far, it sees Priscilla Barielle make a big impression as the maniacal Royal Selection candidate steps into the fold. Straight off the bat, Priscilla saves Subaru from impending doom, destroying Capella Emerada Lugunica’s minions, with the visual spectacle being some of Re:Zero’s best animation to date. With Priscilla on the prowl for action, Subaru sets off to enact revenge on the Witch Cult alongside his trusty comrades.
Meanwhile, Emilia starts seeking a way out of her prison, with Regulus Corneas there to police Emilia and his wives. Acting as a secondary plot, the exploration of the evil and vindictive Regulus makes the Witch Cult a much more intriguing group of misfits, with their misguided actions being in the spotlight.
7 Episode Eight – “The One I’ll Love Someday”
Gears Set Into Motion As Subaru And His Allies Begin Their Plan To Stop The Witch Cult Once And For All
For the midway point of the season, episode eight focuses on setting the scene for the Counter Attack arc, with much of the episode following the war council and their plan to take down the Witch Cult. With the powerful Reinhard van Astrea available to fight, Subaru and his party, filled with characters from all Royal Selection sides, converge, setting up certain groups to take on specific Sin Archbishops across Priestella.
While much is set up, some interesting details emerge, with the revelation of the Tome of Wisdom still existing and Theresia van Astrea being brought back into the fold, making for situations that could dramatically alter the coming events. In the closing moments, Emilia’s U-turn on Regulus at the wedding ceremony and the arrival of Subaru and Reinhard give audiences a glimpse into the all-out war that is set to occur, with the episode putting pieces into place for an epic second half of the season.

At the behest of Anastasia Hoshin, all Royal Selection candidates find themselves in the city, with the meshing of certain characters bringing for exciting fan service. Among the episode’s best moments include the exploration of Reinhard and Wilhelm van Astrea’s challenging relationship, with Subaru’s conservation with Wilhelm on the topic being earnest and intriguing.
Despite much of the episode’s comfy and satisfying content, the cliffhanger of Subaru and the citizens of Priestella falling victim to the new character Sirius brings Subaru back in time, a situation that the character must once again deal with.
4 Episode Four – “Operation: Take Back The Government Office”
Subaru’s War Party Full Of Eclectic Characters Take On The Witch Cult
At the midway point of Season 3, a war room and party are established quickly after the devastating attacks of the Witch Cult in Priestella. Headed by characters such as Subaru, Anastasia, Wilhelm, and Julius, the protagonist is surrounded by many fan favorites as the team calculates their next steps. As a response, a newly formed war party with an array of characters takes on a group of Witch Cult members near the City Hall where Capella was stationed.
The combination and teamwork between characters like Crusch Karsten, Garfiel, and Julius make for epic viewing. However, the episode’s cliffhanger reveals another Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, Roy Alphard, making events even more uneasy for Re:Zero‘s heroes as the arc heats up.
3 Episode Five – “A Dark Torrent”
Capella Displays Her Vile And Abhorrent Nature Against Crusch And Subaru
Despite pushing forward with their war plan, Subaru and his allies fully realize the problems they face, with the fearsome and terrifying Capella making a shocking debut. What ensures is pure chaos, as Reinhard, Beatrice, Subaru, and Emilia all take their shot at Sirius, to no avail, with the chaotic action sequences being thrilling and mesmerizing. After Sirius and Emilia’s epic battle, the emergence of Regulus coming to steal the half-elf leaves the episode on a cliffhanger, with Subaru being left in despair as he watches the one he loves be declared the bride to be of the vile Sin Archbishop of Greed.

Initially starting the episode with Al and Emilia’s brief but interesting conversation using communication mirrors, Subaru becomes the focus of the war party.
In one of the season’s best moments, Subaru delivers a heartfelt and emotional speech that strikes a chord with citizens, giving them hope against the Witch Cult, dispelling the Authority of Wrath in the process. Subaru’s triumphant speech shows the characters’ growth from the show’s start, with the once selfish and ignorant protagonist finally becoming a worthy champion for Emilia and Lugunica.
