Minecraft movie first trailer for the Minecraft film, which stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa, was published by Warner Bros. Furthermore, the minute-long trailer for the adaptation of one of the most well-known video games ever created is…completely terrifying in practically every way.
The first thing that stands out the most is Jason Momoa’s hairstyle, which says it all. The second most visible feature, though, is the intense use of green screen computer graphics. This is obviously necessary if you include live action characters in a Minecraft environment, but why exactly was it done?
I really thought that a Minecraft movie would be made in a style similar to the game. Instead, we get these strange-looking non-game CGI cubes, and it’s not just actors lending their voices to Minecraft-shaped characters; it’s just… people. Jack Black appears as if he just finished filming one of his TikTok videos, unshaven and unkempt, looking just like… Jack Black. But he’s supposed to be Steve. You know, Steve. At least Jason Momoa was willing to look silly in that wig.
I am well aware that I am not the intended audience for this, and that a successful film is not necessary for it to gross $1 billion at the box office—something I completely anticipate happening. However, I believe there are methods to integrate well-known children’s games with live action—Five Nights at Freddy’s, for example—or ways to execute certain styles well—think of the LEGO movies produced in—well, LEGO. It would have been better if they had created a Minecraft movie in the game itself, or at least something that looked a lot more like it.
This place has very horrible aesthetics. The live-action performers imprinted on the flat surroundings, quasi-adapting themselves as foes and animals. Just terrible content. The teaser for the Borderlands movie looks fantastic, so I can only hope that the finished product will look better when it opens in April 2025. Again, though, it won’t really matter because it will earn an absolutely ridiculous amount of money regardless of what happens.

The first teaser trailer for A Minecraft Movie was published by Warner Bros. on Wednesday, something I did not anticipate. Even though it’s just eighty seconds long, it’s enough to make me want to watch it right away while yet avoiding it like the plague.
In case it’s not evident, I’m not the greatest Minecraft lover. Still, I do remember the family’s children enjoying tablet versions of it.
Years have passed since then, but a Minecraft movie would rekindle my interest in this realm. Putting aside my own tastes, this appears to be the next big game-based box office hit. Everyone is aware of the events surrounding The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
With effective promotion, every youngster who enjoys the game will be interested in seeing a Minecraft movie. The teaser trailer is an excellent place to start because it’s already grabbing my attention as someone who would normally never watch a Minecraft movie. Unless there were kids involved, then I would have to bring them along.
Though it doesn’t do a great job at revealing the plot, the teaser trailer makes me think of Jumanji. Not the original, but the reboot. In other words, people become entrapped in a virtual environment where they may have to fight off threats (the flying pigs, of course). And guess what? Jack Black is also in this one. That statement makes me want to watch A Minecraft Movie even more—he’s “Steve.”
The ensemble as a whole is quite strong. The rest of the cast includes Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Kate McKinnon, Jennifer Coolidge, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jason Momoa, whose character is obviously not thrilled with Steve.
