    Summary

    • Lost Records: Bloom and Rage struggles to attract players despite being free on PS Plus Extra.
    • The game follows four high school friends across two timelines, heavily driven by player choice.
    • Don’t Nod Montreal delays the release of Tape 2 to April 15, drawing inspiration from the ’90s for the game.

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, the latest narrative-driven adventure game from Don’t Nod, launched in February 2025 and was immediately available for PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers. As a spiritual successor to the acclaimed Life is Strange series, expectations were high for Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, but recent data shows that the game is struggling to find its audience, even among players who got it for free with their PS Plus subscription.

Developed by Don’t Nod Montreal, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage follows the stories of four high school friends across two timelines: the summer of 1995 and their reunion 27 years later, in 2022. Just like Don’t Nod’s Life is Strange series, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage is heavily driven by its narrative, with players discovering what happened to the four girls in 1995 and how it impacts their current lives. Just like the first episodic Life is Strange games, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage will be rolled out in two parts. The first part, named Tape 1, came out on February 18, while the end of the story will be available in Tape 2, which was set to release a month later.

Why Lost Records: Bloom & Rage’s Development Team Chose To Make An Episodic, Choice-Based Game

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is a story heavily driven by player choice, released in two parts to create an episodic narrative.

Despite being the spiritual successor to the popular Life is Strange series, recent data indicates that Lost Records: Bloom and Rage is having a hard time finding its audience. Reports show that Lost Records: Bloom and Rage attracted 43.2% fewer players than Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which joined PS Plus Extra in the same February update. According to data from over 3.4 million active PSN accounts gathered by TrueTrophies, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage attracted fewer players upon its day-one launch on PS Plus Extra than games like Animal Well, Tchia, and Teardown.

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage Struggles to Attract Players

In a recent interview with Game Rant, the development team discussed the creative process behind Lost Records: Bloom and Rage. Creative director Michel Koch, executive producer Luc Baghadoust and producer Cathy Vincelli explained how they drew inspiration from their own experiences growing up in the ’90s for the setting of Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, as well as how Life is Strange influenced their approach to this new narrative adventure game.

While Tape 1 is already available for players who want to give Lost Records: Bloom and Rage a try, they will have to wait a little longer to discover how the story ends. Don’t Nod Montreal has announced that it will be delaying the release of Lost Records: Bloom and Rage Tape 2 to April 15, 2025, instead of its original March 18 release date.
