Weapons come in a variety of shapes and sizes in Monster Hunter Wilds, and while most come with predetermined stats, the Artian line of weapons offer a degree of flexibility no other weapon tree in the game has.

There’s an Artian variant for every weapon in MH Wilds, and unlike the rest, you don’t need to farm one specific monster to craft them. There’s quite a bit to unpack regarding this weapon tree, so here’s a guide covering all the important bits, from how to get an Artian weapon to what they do and how to upgrade them.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Tips For Co-Op

Playing Monster Hunter Wilds with friends? Here are some key things to keep in mind.

Updated April 7, 2025: We’ve updated this MH Wilds Artian Weapons guide to be more comprehensive by including more details that players will want to know, like the best ways to get Artian gear, how to craft the perfect Artian rolls, and general Artian weapon recommendations. The state of Artian weapons have remained the same even after the big Title Update 1 patch, so previous conventions related to this weapon category have remained the same as well.

What Are Artian Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds?

    MH Wilds Artian GS Stats

Artian Weapons are craftable weapons that players will be able to make once they hunt their first Tempered monster in MH Wilds. Unlike regular weapons, these are modular at first — when crafting an Artian Weapon, you can choose how much damage it does, how much Affinity it has, and what type of elemental damage it deals.

Once you beat your first Tempered monster, a new option to forge Artian Weapons will appear on Gemma’s usual services screen. From there, you can make an Artian Weapon of choice, assuming you have enough Weapon Shards (Blades, Discs, and Tubes). These are the main forging materials for these weapons, and you can get them by hunting more Tempered monsters.

Rarity 8 Artian Weapons have the potential to outperform most weapons created from monster parts. This is due to them having three Level 3 Decoration Slots and their ability to receive stat upgrades via Reinforcement (more on that later).

    How to Craft Artian Weapons

    MH Wilds Artian Weapon Crafting

Once you have enough materials, talk to Gemma and select the Forge Artian Weapon option. From there, you can choose what kind of weapon you want to make. Pick your preferred weapon, and you’ll then see a screen containing all the Artian Weapon Shards you’ve collected thus far.

The types and number of parts you need depend on what Artian weapon you want to make. For example, a Longsword requres one of each material, while a pair of Dual Blades requires two Blades and a Tube.

Each weapon part has an Element and an Infusion, and both can affect the end product depending on the parts you pick:

    • Your weapon will deal Elemental damage if at least two of its parts share the same Elemental damage type.
    • Your weapon will have more or less Attack/Affinity depending on how many parts have Attack/Affinity Infusions.
    • If your weapon does not have any matching Element types, it will deal only raw physical damage.

The result of your chosen weapon parts will be previewed to you on the right side of the screen. You can mix and match these parts however you’d like, but once the weapon is crafted, you won’t be able to modify it anymore, so choose wisely.

All Artian Weapons start at Rarity 6 at first, but you’ll be able to make higher-rarity ones by using Rusted and Ancient Weapon Shards, which become available once you hit HR 30 and 40 respectively. To get Weapon Shards, you need to hunt Tempered monsters.

Ideally, you’ll only want to craft R8 Artian weapons using Ancient Weapon Shards, which are usually farmed from Tempered apex predators. Difficult Tempered Monster fights like from the Mizutsune also give Ancient Weapon Shards.

Exhaust can be a powerful tool in Monster Hunter Wilds if you know how to exploit it.

    How to Upgrade/Reinforce Artian Weapons

    MH Wilds Artian GS Upgrade

Players can’t upgrade a Rarity 6 Artian Weapon into a higher-rarity version. Instead, they’ll have to make new ones using Weapon Shards of the same tier. However, you can Reinforce Artian Weapons using special ores.

Talk to Gemma and select the Reinforce/Dismantle Artian Weapon option. Upgrading weapons here works much like how you’d upgrade armor in MH Wilds. Instead of using Armor Spheres, you’ll need to spend rare metals like Oricalcite, which you can get from the smiths in the Everforge. As you Reinforce your Artian Weapon, it will get bonuses to its Attack, Affinity, Sharpness, Element, or Defense stats, depending on the type of weapon.

    Oricalcite Farming

The most convenient way to get Oricalcite for upgrading Artian weapons in Monster Hunter is to melt unwanted monster materials in Azuz.

If you have an overabundance of monster parts, you can convert them all into Oricalcite by speaking with the two NPCs by the furnace near the Oilwell Basin Base Camp. Materials from apex monsters are worth a lot of points when it comes to Oricalcite conversion, so if you’re farming Hunter Symbol 3 and you don’t particularly care for your target monster’s gear, consider going to Azuz for Oricalcite.

    How to Reroll Artian Weapons

The stat bonuses received from upgrading Artian weapons isn’t as random as initially thought. There’s a trick that players can use to get a perfectly-rolled Artian, and it involves using unwanted weapon parts and save-scumming.

    1. Save your game.
    2. Craft an Artian weapon using unwanted parts to make a junk Artian weapon.
    3. Upgrade it to max level.
    4. If you get bad Reinforcement stats, dismantle the weapon.
    5. Save the game again.
    6. Repeat previous steps until you get good Reinforcement stats.
    7. If you get a good upgrade roll on the junk Artian weapon, reload your last save.
    8. Craft a new Artian weapon using your desired weapon parts.
    9. Upgrade it to max level.

The stats you want on a weapon will differ on a case-to-case basis, but generally, you’ll want high Raw Attack on most of your rolls. For bowguns, getting a magazine upgrade or two will help out a lot as well.
