Friedrichshafen/Zweibrücken, 4th June 2025: During its yearly Tech Day 2025, ZF, a Tier 1 German technology component manufacturer, unveiled its new SELECT e-drive platform.
This platform, which includes e-machines (em: SELECT), reduction gearboxes (rd: SELECT), inverters (in: SELECT), DC converters (co: SELECT), and control software (sw: SELECT), approaches electric drivetrains component-by-component. All parts are made to be plug-and-play compatible and scalable across different motor architectures, voltage classes, and form factors.

Modularity is now a competitive advantage as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) abandon one-size-fits-all solutions. ZF’s approach is centred on providing high-performance, readily integrated subsystems that let automakers design customised e-drive setups without being constrained by platform lock-in or drawn-out development cycles.
ZF is strengthening its position as a major force in e-mobility and as a stand-alone worldwide provider of electric drive systems for light commercial and passenger cars. The modularisation that enables ZF to provide a wide range of products and a quick rate of innovation is a significant turning point in this effort. The new SELECT e-drive platform, which draws on the Group’s decades of experience as a supplier and innovator of components and systems, is essential to this advancement.

We are best equipped to meet the intricate market demands of e-mobility thanks to the SELECT platform. Mathias Miedreich, a member of the ZF Board of Management and head of the Electrified Powertrain Technology Division, says, “This focus, along with our overall vehicle expertise, enables us to provide customers a technologically leading, broad, and customised product range.” “With ongoing advancements across all vehicle classes, our comprehensive range also includes both the full spectrum of electrified drives and attractive drive solutions for highly efficient combustion engines.”
In order to satisfy this demand, ZF is constantly expanding its product line because hybrid drive solutions are still important in some markets. The Group unveiled the 8HP evo, a successful 8-speed automatic gearbox concept that offers enhanced performance, efficiency, and flexibility for a range of hybrid platforms, at the eMobility Tech Day.
EVselect Concept Vehicle: Mobile Innovation Demonstrator
The EVselect concept car serves as an example of how well ZF’s innovations are implemented. It has SELECT platform-based electric primary and secondary drives in pre-series versions that provide quick propulsion. The car’s drive unit, battery, and interior are also effectively conditioned by the new TherMaS thermal management system.
Revolutionary Thermal Management System
TherMaS, a thermal management system designed especially for all-electric vehicles, is another innovation that demonstrates the value of ZF’s thorough understanding of the entire vehicle. Propane as a refrigerant allows for a lighter and more compact system design while improving thermal performance at both high and low temperatures. According to tests, the electric range can be increased by up to 10% in harsh winter conditions and by up to 30% in extreme cases with improved thermal management and more effective use of waste heat from the drivetrain.
Board member Mathias Miedreich summed up, “ZF offers the right solutions to ensure a comfortable and relaxed driving experience regardless of where people are driving in the world or which energy sources are available.”
