    • Lucid Motors will offer a $7,500 credit to Gravity customers who take delivery after September 30.
    • That’s when the federal tax credit ends, but the American EV maker is extending the offer by paying out of pocket.
    • The offer is only valid for customers who want to lease, and there’s a cutoff date.

Lucid Motors is ramping up production of the Gravity SUV, which is expected to quickly surpass the Air sedan’s sales figures. However, the timing of the ramp-up coincides with the federal government ending the $7,500 tax credit at the end of the month, which could mess up some customers’ plans.

Due to its high price tag of over $90,000, the Gravity is only eligible for the tax credit through leasing, but customers need to take delivery by September 30 to get the discount at the point of sale. With Lucid just ramping up production of its first SUV, it’s nearly impossible to deliver all the cars that would be eligible for the tax credit, so the company is offering a $7,500 credit to customers who take delivery after September 30.

Speaking with Brew Markets, Marc Winterhoff, Lucid’s interim CEO, said that the federal tax credit ending soon won’t have a big impact on the company’s sales figures, considering the high price point of its models. However, he acknowledged that many customers have asked Lucid to do everything it can to deliver the Gravity before the tax credit cutoff date.

“We now see people coming in saying, ‘I want to have delivery by the end of the month,’” Winterhoff said. “On the Gravity, we are honoring the $7,500 until the end of the year, because we have so many orders, and we don’t want to tell all the holders that we couldn’t deliver in time, and therefore, they’re out of luck.”

That’s a pretty good deal, but there is something important to be aware of. According to the automaker’s website, the offer is only valid for new Gravity Grand Tour or Dream Edition leases that have been ordered by September 30. Then, the customer must take delivery of the vehicle within seven days of it being ready for delivery, but no later than December 31.

With a starting price of $96,550, the Gravity electric SUV is anything but affordable, but a discount is always welcome. It’s also worth noting that customers get a lot of bang for their buck, with the current entry-level Grand Touring trim offering a healthy 828 horsepower and an EPA-estimated 450 miles of range on a full charge. It’s also one of the fastest-charging EVs outside of China, with a maximum input of 400 kilowatts, which can add up to 200 miles of range in under 11 minutes.
