The M277 is the second unlockable carbine in Battlefield 6, and it can easily put a smile on the faces of fans of high-caliber weapons. This gun can easily rival even the best assault rifles, but it also comes with a few drawbacks.
This guide covers two different builds for the M277, with each giving it different combat roles. If you’re a fan of BF6’s big modes, or if you prefer duking it out in small, close quarters battles, this carbine has something to offer for whatever playstyle you prefer.

The M277 is a versatile weapon that players can use effectively in nearly all ranges. It doesn’t shred people quite as quickly as the M4A1 in BF6, but what it lacks in CQB potential, it makes up for with ranged consistency. This weapon will deal its full damage at up to 80 meters, which is insane for a carbine. Of course, this comes with one major drawback: the M277’s recoil is incredibly harsh by default.
The best way to use the M277 is to fire in four-shot bursts. Tap or fan your fire button when shooting at an enemy, and unless you’re in very close quarters, try not to hold the trigger down for longer than needed. Using single shot mode is also recommended, as the M277’s recoil resets fairly quickly.

This build aims to stick to the M277’s strength as a versatile, close-mid-ranged weapon. Use the magnified optic when fighting players from afar, and switch to your canted sights for close-ranged encounters.
Using the Lightened Suppressor is strongly recommended, as not only will it hide you from the minimap, but it will also prevent you from getting spotted when firing like the other muzzle devices. Pair this with the 6H64 Vertical Grip to significantly reduce the M277’s recoil. Once you level the weapon up some more, use the Classic Vertical Grip instead for maximum recoil reduction.
This loadout works best when you’re shooting from a distance. It works much like how a DMR would, except you can switch to full-auto for when you want to get up close and personal. The M277 is still a strong gun at close range, but with only 20 rounds in a magazine, you’ll only be able to take out a maximum of four players before needing to reload.

If you want an M277 that’s tailored for close combat, then this is the build you’ll want to use. It trades stealth and ranged effectiveness for better hipfire accuracy, faster ADS and weapon swap speeds, and snappier reloads. The M277 is more or less on-par with the M4A1 in terms of close-range effectiveness, so as long as you hit your shots (and stay roughly eight meters away from an M4A1 or M433 user), you should have no trouble competing in close quarters.
