Skyrim is the right combination of medieval fantasy and action RPG that lots of players enjoy. Especially those looking for incredible adventures and brutal combat. However, those who have done roaming around the north of Tamriel are thinking about what comes next.

The Witcher 4

The Wiedźmin Saga Continues

The Witcher 4 will mark a new beginning for the series originally written by Andrzej Sapkowski, and brought to the gaming universe by CD Projekt Red. And fans couldn’t be happier about the return of one of the main characters of the series, this time, as the sole protagonist of this story, which already promises to be even darker than Geralt’s tale of sword and sorcery.

It might not be a game that can be played in First Person, like Skyrim, but it has all the ingredients of medieval dark fantasy, magic, and brutal combat needed to satisfy those looking to explore the most dangerous forests and seek monsters to slay. Sadly, The Witcher 4 doesn’t have a release date yet.

Fable

A New Beginning For The Acclaimed Series

Based on the original series created by the legend Peter Molineaux and his team at Lionhead Studios, Fable is a new beginning for this story of heroes and villains in the magical world of Albion. This time, it’s being developed by Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios, and that is bound to bring changes to the soul of the project.

However, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be less fun or immersive, since for all the devs have showcased so far, it respects most of the core elements of the original series: a sword and sorcery, enemies that look like a mishmash between a Grimm Brother’s character and something out of our worst nightmares, and a witty sense of humor accompanying the heroes (or villains) through their journey across beautiful scenarios. Fable will be released at an unconfirmed date in 2026.

The Blood of Dawnwalker

Warrior By Day, Bloody Avenger By Night

Born of a studio that combines veterans of the game industry (mostly former CD Projekt Red employees), The Blood of Dawnwalker is an original story that combines gothic horror with medieval fantasy. Its dark mood and setting already point in the direction of games like Skyrim, The Witcher 3, and Dark Souls.

However, the little gameplay footage and teasers showcase a strain of stealth and guerrilla combat, which is also a nice touch. Apparently, players will incarnate a half-human / half-vampire as he seeks to rescue his family from the claws of a supernatural enemy (with a real-time countdown and all). Players might have to alternate the human gameplay with vampire mode play to accomplish their goal, but the question remains: Will it be enough to satisfy the taste for blood of most Skyrim players? We will know once it’s released in 2026, at an unconfirmed date.

Crimson Desert

The Waiting Is Almost Over

Since its original announcement back in 2019, Crimson Desert has been in development by Pearl Abyss, and players were biting their nails, waiting for an exact release date. Recently, the developers of Black Desert confirmed that the long-awaited Single-Player Action RPG, is going to be released on March 16, 2026.

For those looking to battle dangerous enemies in a medieval fantasy setting, this game will offer a chance to enjoy non-stop, fluid combat in third person that merges the best of games like The Witcher 3 and Dark Souls, with the characteristic combo system of Black Desert. With combat actions that go from bull rushes, shield slams, and even powerful dropkicks, the game will offer a wide array of ways to kill enemies. The graphics will be top-notch, too, so Skyrim players can expect lots of cool views and a vast wilderness to explore.

Clockwork Revolution

A SteamPunk Fallout/Skyrim Merge

With a design style that takes the best from games like Fallout, Dishonored, and Skyrim, this Steam Punk adventure is all about taking arms against an evil regime. Players will be fighting alongside a group of misfits against an evil regime, and possibly, changing the course of history in the process.

One of the coolest characteristics that can be appreciated about Clockwork Revolution, is its weapon crafting system, which is very similar to that of Fallout, but it has its own quirks and, of course, steampunk-style contraptions to craft and use to kill everything that moves. This game is set to be released on an unconfirmed date, though it is known that it’s going to be available on Xbox Game Pass.

Fatekeeper

A Brutal First Person Fantasy RPG

First shown in THQ Nordic’s Digital Showcase back in August 2025, Fatekeeper is one of the many games that hopes to inherit Skyrim’s title of the next-generation first-person fantasy action RPG. Alongside titles like Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, it is set in a much darker medieval-fantasy universe, only this time, it will probably have the characteristic THQ imprint that has brought to life many great action titles like Titan Quest (and most recently Titan Quest 2).

Fatekeeper’s focus seems to be more on the side of combat and magic, with a linear storyline and tighter (not open-world) gameplay experience. For what has been showcased so far, it looks like a mixture of the classic Might and Magic games and a Souls-like. Quite intriguing, and definitely among the wishlist of many Skyrim fans.

Alkahest

An Alchemist Working His Way Up In A Dark And Unforgiving World

Alkahest is one of the most promising upcoming games that mixes first-person combat and a fantasy environment in a medieval world. With a fully destructive environment as part of the combat experience to boot. This game is being developed by HypeTrain Digital (developers of Voidtrain and The Wild Eight), so it’s a studio with lots of experience that has put lots of interesting games in the market.

Skyrim fans should be looking up to Alkahest, and though we don’t have a disclosed date of release yet, it looks promising enough to make up for the wait.
