    • The 2026 GMC Hummer EV loses Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
    • The move comes amid General Motors’ plan to sunset the two smartphone projection systems on all its cars in the future.
    • As a result, the Cadillac Lyriq is now the only new EV in GM’s portfolio that still offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The 2026 GMC Hummer EV, which was announced in May, does not come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity–a change I noticed while browsing GMC’s online vehicle configurator.

Previously, the Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq were the only electric vehicles in General Motors’ American lineup that still offered these popular smartphone projection systems. Now, the Lyriq crossover is the sole model still available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the United States. (GM still bundles smartphone projection in EVs sold overseas.)

That said, the days of smartphone mirroring systems in GM cars are numbered. The company first announced that it would ditch Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its new EVs in 2023, but kept the two systems in gas vehicles. Yesterday, however, GM CEO Mary Barra made it clear that upcoming cars–either facelifted models or new generations–will no longer offer smartphone projection, as the automaker is trying to create infotainment systems that are less “clunky”.

“It wasn’t seamless, and frankly, in some cases, it could be distracting to move back and forth if you were doing something that you could do on a phone projection type of system, versus if you needed to do something in the vehicle,” Barra said during The Verge’s Decoder podcast.

Speaking of software, the 2026 Hummer EV comes with an improved version of GM’s Super Cruise advanced driver assistance system. It now integrates with Google Maps to help drivers navigate to the correct lane. What’s more, the updated EV can automatically switch from a hands-on driving mode to a hands-free mode when it reaches a Super Cruise-enabled piece of road, a move indicated by the green lightbar on the steering wheel.

What’s more, the gigantic electric SUV and pickup truck can now export power from their massive batteries to power an entire home, thanks to the addition of vehicle-to-home (V2H). Despite the Hummer EV being one of GM’s first modern EVs, it didn’t have this capability until now.

To use vehicle-to-home (V2H), owners also need GM’s Energy PowerShift Charger and Energy V2H Enablement Kit. These are sold separately, but enable owners to keep the lights on during a grid blackout. Moreover, the updated Hummer EV also supports vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) energy transfer, which allows it to transfer power to another compatible EV.

Also new for 2026 is King Crab mode, which comes on top of the standard four-wheel steering of the electric SUV and pickup. When the new steering mode is activated, the rear wheels turn significantly faster than the front wheels, resulting in more maneuverability when navigating tight spaces off-road, moving around obstacles or rock crawling, according to GMC.

The feature comes standard on the 2026 Hummer EV Pickup and SUV in 2X and 3X versions, and will also be enabled in older vehicles through an over-the-air software update.

A new Carbon Fiber Edition, which is available for both the Pickup and SUV, enhances the 9000-pound EV’s acceleration even further–not that it needed it. Wearing unique 22-inch carbon fiber black wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, the 2026 Hummer EV Carbon Fiber Edition can sprint from zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds, making it the fastest Hummer EV yet. (The regular versions can do the same sprint in roughly 3 seconds, so they’re not exactly slow, either.)

GMC said that it made the electric truck faster by optimizing the software and the propulsion calibration, as well as developments in hardware and analysis work. The top-spec pickup version now comes with 1,160 horsepower—160 more than the outgoing model.

Besides being a little faster, the Carbon Fiber Edition also comes with a black approach shield, black emblems, and carbon fiber inserts in the mirror caps and skid plate. The SUV version also gets a 22-inch spare carbon fiber wheel. For the rest of the lineup, two new exterior colors have been added to the palette–Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte–as well as two new interior themes–Granite Drift and Stealth Eclipse.

The 2026 GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV will be available at dealers later this year at a starting price of $99,095, including destination. Two trims are offered: 2X and 3X, with range figures varying between 316 and 363 miles, depending on the body style, battery pack and trim.
