Apple might be shaking things up again. Fresh leaks out of China suggest that the upcoming iPhone 18 lineup could bring some serious hardware changes—especially for the Pro models. A variable aperture camera, a new display design, and even Apple’s long-awaited foldable iPhone all seem to be part of the roadmap.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: Cameras Get a Big Upgrade

According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will feature a variable aperture main camera, giving users more control over how much light enters the lens. That means you’ll be able to adjust the aperture based on your shooting conditions—wider for better low-light shots, narrower for more depth of field in brighter scenes.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because this kind of system is common in DSLRs, but not smartphones. Apple’s current Pro models, including the iPhone 17 Pro, use a fixed ƒ/1.78 aperture. A switch to a mechanical, variable system could mark a major leap in how iPhone cameras handle exposure and background blur.

The same leak also points to larger apertures for both the main and telephoto lenses, hinting at brighter, more detailed photos, especially in darker environments.

    Small Details, Big Picture

Beyond cameras, Apple may be testing a slightly transparent back panel, revealing elements like the MagSafe coil. There’s also talk of a stainless-steel vapor chamber cooling system, which would improve sustained performance during intensive use.

    A New Look—and a New Timeline

Digital Chat Station’s post also mentions that Apple could tweak the form factor of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. The Pro models might feature 6.27-inch and 6.86-inch LTPO OLED displays with 1.5K resolution, possibly incorporating HIAA (Hole-in-Active-Area) tech to hide Face ID sensors under the screen. That would leave just the front camera visible—essentially a near full-screen iPhone.

However, not every report agrees. Other leaks suggest that Apple will shrink the Dynamic Island instead of removing it completely.

Interestingly, the launch schedule may also change. Instead of debuting all models together, Apple might stagger the iPhone 18 rollout. The Pro, Pro Max, and Air models are tipped to launch in September 2026, while the regular iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e could arrive later, in early 2027.

The Foldable iPhone Finally Nears Reality

The leak also mentions a new entrant: the iPhone 18 Fold. Apple’s first foldable phone is rumored to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models in 2026, putting it head-to-head with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series and other foldable flagships.

While details are limited, the Fold could share much of its hardware with the Pro line—including Apple’s upcoming A20 chip, built on TSMC’s 2nm process.
