Popular city builder Cities: Skylines 2 is currently free-to-play on Steam for a limited time. Gamers can try Cities: Skylines 2 until November 10, with a free weekend event ongoing and a discount extending beyond that.
As the sequel to the immensely popular Cities Skylines, the 2023 city builder had a lot to live up to. Admittedly, the reception to the game was rough, and it currently holds a “Mixed” review score on Steam, with many players claiming Cities: Skylines 2 was missing features that made the original so great. However, the game retains a strong player base on Steam, despite its earlier struggles, and Colossal Order has continued to improve it via updates over the last few years.
Cities: Skylines 2 is Free to Play on Steam For a Limited Time
The studio seems a little more confident in its product now, with Colossal Order offering Cities: Skylines 2 on a free weekend on Steam until November 10. Despite its reputation, players can make their minds up for themselves for a limited time and see how Cities: Skylines 2 compares to the original over two years after its release. This free weekend arrives on the back of the launch of the Bridges & Ports expansion, which brought over 100 new assets to the city builder, including ferries and bridges.
That’s not all. For those who do think Cities: Skylines 2 lives up to their expectations during the free period, the game is also available at a 20% discount until November 12, giving players just a little more time to make a purchasing decision. This brings Cities: Skylines 2 down to $39.99. Steam also has a few ongoing free weekend titles at the moment, including the likes of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, The Falconeer: Revolution Remaster, Wartales, and Legion TD 2 – Multiplayer Tower Defense, so gamers are spoiled for choice.
As for Cities: Skylines 2, the title has come a long way with tons of new content since launch. Earlier this year, Colossal Order released the massive 10-year anniversary update celebrating the series’ launch, but there are still no signs of the elusive Cities: Skylines 2 console versions. A release is eventually planned for both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, but there has been no word on that for some time now.
