Unlocking new mobility skills is a classic feature in a Metroidvania game like MIO: Memories in Orbit. It dictates where you can go and can’t go, how to progress, and ensures you won’t reach a location too early.
In MIO: Memories in Orbit, the first mobility skill you should unlock is the ability to hook onto green crystals. The hook skill in MIO: Memories in Orbit is called the Hairpin. Here’s how to get it.
How To Unlock The Map In MIO Memories in Orbit
Unlocking the map in MIO: Memories in Orbit will make exploration far easier in the maze-like vessel.
How To Get The Hairpin Ability (Hook Skill) In MIO Memories in Orbit
To unlock the hook ability and use the green crystals in MIO: Memories in Orbit, players must get the Hairpin ability. Hairpin upgrade is the reward for beating Egis.
After the related NPC installs the upgrade, Mio will fall unconscious. In this time, you’ll be in a room that serves as a tutorial for the Hairpin skill. You must complete the small obstacle course to continue, which means you’re forced to know how to use Mio’s hook.
How To Reach Egis In MIO Memories in Orbit
To reach Egis and unlock the Hairpin skill in MIO: Memories in Orbit, first, you need to use the elevator to go to the top floor, Apartments.
After reaching the locked door that leads to the Metropolis, find a way down and continue following the route to the right.
Eventually, you’ll reach the locked door in The Spine level, the one where there’s a hand stuck on the door.
Open the door to free the robot, Rad. As thanks, the robot will give Mio a modifier called Analyser. Using this modifier will display the enemy’s remaining health, making it easier to gauge if you’re able to beat a foe or not. This modifier will occupy 5 slots in Mio’s module.
You can do modifications at an overseer dock. By opening this door, Mio will gain access to the elevator she used to go to the Apartments floor, meaning you can easily go to the overseer for a quick upgrade.
From the door, continue left and head down. Keep following the route to the left, and you’ll eventually reach a big room where you can keep going down.
Follow the path until there’s a way to the right, then keep heading right. Do not go down, and you should soon reach a wall that you can break, leading Mio to the other side. There’s a Nacre Basin you can use to heal before the upcoming boss fight.
Once ready, head down and enter the room to battle Egis.
The shortcut you unlocked earlier will be useful if you fail to beat Egis on the first try. Thankfully, as an introductory boss, the robot’s movements are pretty obvious, and there’s a lot of downtime where the boss isn’t doing anything.
Once Egis falls in combat, continue going down and interact with the pipe. This will grant Mio the Hairpin skill, which allows her to hook onto green crystals floating all over the Ark.
