Vivo may be taking smartphone battery sizes to a level we haven’t really seen before.

Vivo Tipped To Be Testing Smartphone With Massive 12,000mAh Battery

A new leak suggests the company is currently testing a phone with a very large battery, potentially pushing past the 10,000mAh mark. It’s still early days, but the details give a glimpse into where phone makers might be headed next.

A Phone Built Around a Massive Battery

According to Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, Vivo is testing a device that uses a single-cell silicon battery rated at 10,000mAh. What’s more interesting is the typical capacity. The tipster claims it could land somewhere between 11,000mAh and 12,000mAh, depending on final tuning.

The battery is said to run at 4.53V and uses a single-cell design rather than combining multiple smaller cells. That approach could help keep the design simpler, though how it affects thickness or weight isn’t clear yet.

For now, this phone is still in testing, which means nothing here is locked in.

Why Big Batteries Are Suddenly Everywhere

Big batteries aren’t just a China-only thing anymore. They’ve become common in India too.

A few years ago, a 5,000mAh battery felt generous. Now it feels closer to the minimum. Phones with larger batteries are easy to find across both Indian and Chinese lineups, especially in mid-range and performance-focused models. Brands like Honor and Realme have already taken things further with 10,000mAh phones.

What’s changed is the battery tech itself. Newer silicon-carbon batteries let manufacturers pack more capacity into the same space. Silicon holds more charge than older graphite-based designs, and carbon helps keep things stable as the battery expands during charging.

That’s why battery numbers that once sounded unrealistic now feel normal. Seen in that context, Vivo testing something closer to 12,000mAh doesn’t feel extreme. It feels like a natural next step.

    What about Xiaomi and iQOO?

The same leak also touched on what competitors might be doing.

When asked about Xiaomi, the tipster said large-battery phones are being planned, though nothing has been finalized yet. That suggests Xiaomi is at least considering similar ideas.

As for Vivo’s own lineup, the tipster added that the company’s main flagship phones are unlikely to reach 9,000mAh this year. However, its sub-brand iQOO could be the one to test a 9,000mAh battery first.

Again, these are early discussions rather than confirmed products.

Still a Long Way From Launch

It’s worth stressing that this Vivo phone is still under testing. Even if the battery performs well, it could take a while before such a device actually launches, assuming it ever does.
