If you’re playing Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, there are two ways to get a Lapras. You can speak to a scientist in the Silph Co. building on floor 7 after clearing out Team Rocket, or you can surf in Icefall Cave on Four Island in the post-game. I’ve outlined each of these methods below to help you pursue this rare Pokemon in your save of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen.

How to Get Lapras in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
Getting Lapras from the Scientist
The easiest way to get a Lapras in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen is to speak to the scientist on the seventh floor of the Silph Co. building in Saffron City.
From the Pokemon Center in Saffron City, go up one row of buildings and look for the large building with the glass doors. It’s pretty impossible to miss, as shown in the screenshot of Saffron City above. This is the Silph Co. building. Head right to the elevator on the back wall of this lobby and choose 3F from the menu.
Exit the elevator and head down. Enter the first room on your left, which has a laptop on the table and one of the warp pads just next to the stool. Stand on the warp pad, and it’ll take you to a room on 7F with a scientist inside and another warp pad from the one you entered the room in.
Speak to the scientist, and he’ll remark that you’re not one of those Team Rocket folk, thank you for helping, and reward you with a Lapras for doing so.
Don’t worry about making sure you have free space in your party for Lapras. If you have a full party (and chances are you do), then Lapras will just be sent to your PC (Bill’s PC).
Catching a Lapras in Icefall Cave
The alternative and less recommended way of getting Lapras is to catch one in the wild. There is only one location that Lapras can be caught in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen and it is in Icefall Cave on Four Island.
Four Island can only be accessed as part of the post-game content after you beat the Elite Four and enter your Pokemon into the Hall of Fame.
Once you arrive on Four Island, head southeast of the Pokemon Center and down the steps before surfing on the water to enter a cave on the other side.
Immediately surf on the water and head up the waterfall directly in front of you. After scaling the waterfall, take the ladder in the top left corner, and then head through the cave right next to the ladder you’ve just dropped down to enter another room.
In the water at the back of this room, you have a 1% chance of encountering a Lapras when surfing on this water. As such, it’s highly recommended that you save yourself some time and just get the one from the scientist in the Silph Co. building, but if you want to catch your own, this is the only way to get it.
