On the official Resident Evil subreddit, a Redditor going by the username Profaniter posted a side-by-side comparison of a similarity between a scene from Resident Evil Requiem and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. In the scene from the film, Frodo can be seen coming face-to-face with the giant spider Shelob. The sequence is nearly recreated frame by frame for a boss fight in Resident Evil Requiem, where a similar arachnid briefly stalks Leon S. Kennedy from above before attacking him.
While the scenes in question in Resident Evil Requiem and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King are quite identical at first glance, the ending for the spiders in both cases is what makes the encounters different. In The Return of the King, the scene ends badly for Frodo, who is paralyzed by Shelob’s venom. In Resident Evil Requiem, however, Leon S. Kennedy takes part in a boss fight against the large arachnid using his skill set and arsenal before eliminating it using his trusty hatchet.
