Samsung’s next foldables may not come with the awkward naming scheme that earlier leaks hinted at.

For the past few months, rumors around the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup kept throwing around names like “Fold 8 Wide” and even “Galaxy Z Wide Fold.” Neither really sounded like something Samsung would confidently put on a retail box.

Now, a fresh leak from Ice Universe suggests the company may be going in a much cleaner direction instead.

The foldable previously rumored as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide could reportedly launch as the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the more premium version may arrive as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Honestly, that sounds far more believable.

Samsung Could Be Borrowing From Its Galaxy S Strategy

If the leak turns out to be accurate, Samsung may finally be treating foldables the same way it handles the Galaxy S lineup.

You get a standard version. Then you get the Ultra.

That structure is already familiar to buyers, and it avoids creating strange sub-brands that need extra explaining every year.

More importantly, it hints that Samsung may want a bigger gap between the two foldables this time around instead of just offering slightly different screen sizes.

The Ultra Model May Push Hardware Further

Current leaks suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could come with a larger 5,000mAh battery and a more capable camera setup that includes a dedicated telephoto sensor.

Meanwhile, the regular Fold 8 is expected to stick with a smaller 4,800mAh battery and a simpler dual-camera arrangement.

Both phones are still tipped to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, so the real separation may come down to cameras, battery life, and display experience.

That’s probably the smarter approach anyway. Foldables are already expensive enough, so clearer differentiation helps justify why one model costs more than the other.

Samsung Seems To Be Reacting To A Changing Foldable Market

The foldable category has changed pretty quickly over the last year.

Chinese brands have been aggressively shrinking bezels, reducing thickness, improving hinge designs, and pushing larger batteries into thinner bodies. Some foldables now look surprisingly normal when folded shut, which wasn’t really true a couple of years ago.

Samsung still leads globally in foldables, but the competition around hardware refinement is getting harder to ignore.

At the same time, there’s also the long-running conversation around Apple eventually entering the foldable market. Even without an actual product yet, that possibility continues to hang over the category.

    Launch Likely Around July

Samsung is expected to unveil the Fold 8 lineup during its summer Galaxy Unpacked event in July 2026.

Some leaks have pointed toward London as a possible venue, although Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed the location yet.

For now, the Fold 8 Ultra name remains part of the rumor cycle. But compared to “Fold 8 Wide,” it feels like a much more realistic direction for Samsung’s branding.
