London-based smartphone brand Nothing has dismissed reports claiming it is shutting down operations in multiple global markets. The company also denied allegations of large-scale layoffs and weak sales of the Nothing Phone (4b), clarifying that it is instead undergoing a strategic restructuring aimed at improving efficiency and supporting long-term growth.

The clarification comes after reports suggested that Nothing was preparing to exit more than a dozen international markets while significantly reducing its global workforce.

Nothing Says It Isn’t Leaving Any Market

Nothing Co-founder Akis Evangelidis responded to the reports on X (formerly Twitter), calling the claims “fake news.”

According to Evangelidis, the company has no plans to withdraw from any country. Instead, it is reorganising its global operations by consolidating country-specific teams into larger regional hubs. The move, he said, is designed to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and better position the company for future expansion.

As part of the restructuring, Nothing is also creating new business divisions, including a dedicated AI-native team, as it prepares for the next phase of AI-driven computing.

Layoffs Confirmed, But Reports ‘Overblown’

While denying reports of widespread job cuts, Nothing acknowledged that the restructuring has resulted in some roles being affected.

Evangelidis said the reported layoff figures were “way overblown”, adding that the company cannot disclose exact numbers due to local labour regulations across different markets.

He also noted that workforce reduction decisions were not taken lightly and that Nothing remains committed to supporting employees affected by the restructuring.

Nothing Rejects Poor Phone (4b) Sales Claims

The company also pushed back against reports suggesting that the Nothing Phone (4b) had sold only 20,000 units globally since launch.

According to Evangelidis, the smartphone sold 29,537 units on its first day alone, making it the brand’s fastest-selling device in its price segment. While Nothing did not disclose updated cumulative sales figures, it said the reported numbers significantly underestimated the device’s market performance.

AI and Regional Hubs to Drive Future Growth

Nothing says its restructuring is focused on building a more scalable organisation rather than reducing its global presence.

The company believes operating through regional hubs will improve execution across markets while allowing teams to collaborate more efficiently. At the same time, the newly formed AI division is expected to play a key role in developing future products and software experiences.

What It Means for Nothing’s Future

Nothing’s statement comes at a time when several smartphone brands are reassessing their global strategies amid rising manufacturing costs, supply chain challenges, and slowing consumer demand in some regions.

By denying shutdown rumours and reaffirming its long-term commitment to international markets, Nothing has attempted to reassure customers, partners, and investors that its current restructuring is part of a broader business transformation-not a retreat from global operations.
