Apple has unveiled its latest innovation, the M3 Ultra chip, which it describes as the most powerful chip it has ever developed. This chip boasts the strongest CPU and GPU found in any Mac to date, doubling the Neural Engine cores and offering the largest unified memory available in a personal computer. Alongside this, Apple introduced the new Mac Studio, featuring both M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips.
The M3 Ultra is designed to deliver exceptional performance while maintaining energy efficiency. It features a 32-core CPU with 24 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores, providing a 1.5 times faster performance than its predecessor, the M2 Ultra, and 1.8 times faster than the M1 Ultra. The 80-core GPU offers graphics that are twice as fast as those of the M2 Ultra and 2.6 times faster than the M1 Ultra.

M3 Ultra: Key Features
The advanced graphics architecture of the M3 Ultra includes dynamic caching, mesh shading, and ray tracing capabilities. These features enhance content creation and gaming experiences significantly. A 32-core Neural Engine powers AI tasks efficiently, driving Apple’s personal AI system known as Apple Intelligence.
Built specifically for AI applications, the M3 Ultra integrates machine learning accelerators with a high-performance GPU and an impressive memory bandwidth of 800GB/s. This allows professionals to run large language models (LLMs) with over 600 billion parameters directly on their devices.
Mac Studio: New Models
The new Mac Studio is hailed by Apple as its most powerful Mac yet, offering options for both M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips. The Mac Studio with M4 Max is tailored for video editors, developers, and creative professionals. It features a 16-core CPU, a 40-core GPU, and a memory bandwidth of 500GB/s.
The Neural Engine in the M4 Max is three times faster than that in the M1 Max, enabling rapid AI task execution. According to Apple, it performs 3.5 times faster than the M1 Max Mac Studio and is 6.1 times quicker than an Intel-based 27-inch iMac.
Performance Highlights
The media engine in the M4 Max includes two ProRes accelerators that handle multiple streams of 4K ProRes effortlessly. Performance highlights include being 1.6 times faster in image processing using Photoshop compared to the M1 Max Mac Studio and offering a speed increase of up to 2.1 times for code compiling in Xcode.

The Mac Studio with M3 Ultra represents peak professional performance levels by delivering nearly double the speed of high-core-count tasks compared to the M4 Max model. It is also noted to be 2.6 times faster than its predecessor, the M1 Ultra Mac Studio.
