Final Fantasy 14 players who have not played the critically acclaimed MMORPG in some time now have a window to do so, as Square Enix launched a free login campaign for players to enjoy. The Final Fantasy 14 free login campaign is a limited-time offer that gives inactive players a few days of game time, allowing them to experience the game’s latest content.
The free login campaign’s return came as Final Fantasy 14 endured a rough patch. Since the fall of 2025, Final Fantasy 14 has periodically experienced distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on the game’s North American data centers. The attacks intensified following the launch of the Arcadion’s final Savage raid tier on January 6, as FF14 players reported over a dozen DDoS attacks and disconnections. The server issues negatively affected FF14 players’ performance in the new Savage raid instances, with some attacks costing raid teams a chance at victory in some boss battles. By January 8, the attacks on Final Fantasy 14‘s servers had largely subsided after a few raid teams cleared the Arcadion’s Heavyweight Savage raids.
Final Fantasy 14 Nintendo Switch 2 Version Has Seemingly Been Confirmed
Fans of MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 who have been hoping for it to become portable by way of the Nintendo Switch 2 are seemingly in luck.
Unsubscribed Final Fantasy 14 Players Can Return to Eorzea for Free
As Final Fantasy 14 prepares to launch its first 2026 content updates, players who have not been subscribed to the game for at least a month have a chance to return at no added cost. Final Fantasy 14‘s free login campaign allows players with lapsed subscriptions to come back for a 96-hour window, allowing them to experience Patch 7.4’s main story and Arcadion raid updates while their free game time lasts. However, this offer is only for Final Fantasy 14 players without an active subscription, and the 96-hour timer on free game time starts as soon as players log into the game via the launcher. Players have until 9:59 AM Eastern on Monday, February 9, to claim their free game time. Once that expires, Final Fantasy 14 players can resume their adventures by renewing their game subscription via the Mog Station, with plans starting at $12.99 per month.
The return of Final Fantasy 14‘s free login campaign coincided with an ongoing event, as the annual Heavensturn festivities are now live until January 15. Like the real-world Lunar New Year, this year’s Heavensturn event is based on the Year of the Horse. Final Fantasy 14 players level 15 and up can earn an Uma-no-Unicolt minion by speaking to the Uma Bugyo NPC in Limsa Lominsa’s Upper Decks and accepting the quest “Seize The Neigh” while Heavensturn is active. Given that holiday quests are a limited-time affair, Final Fantasy 14 players can complete them within 15 to 30 minutes on average.
What’s Next for Final Fantasy 14 in 2026?
Final Fantasy 14 will have a few patches that feature new and exciting content to tide players over until the North American FanFest in April. The upcoming FanFest is when the game’s next expansion should be revealed. FF14‘s next update, Patch 7.41, will offer updates to the game’s Cosmic Exploration, Cosmic Tools, and Phantom Weapon features. The rocky planet of Oizys will be the next destination that Final Fantasy 14‘s Cosmic Exploration campaign will explore, with some new rewards for crafters and gatherers to earn. Patch 7.41 should launch in the coming days, though no concrete date has been issued by Square Enix as of this writing.
Following the 7.41 update, Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.45 should arrive about a month or so afterward. The 7.45 update will add the next chapter of Dawntrail‘s Hildibrand adventures, along with a new Variant and Criterion Dungeon called The Merchant’s Tale. Dawntrail‘s final major update, Patch 7.5, should go live some days after the North American FanFest concludes. With Final Fantasy 14 already setting the stage for its next expansion, time will tell what direction Square Enix will take the game’s story, and how many players will renew their subscriptions after seeing what Patch 7.4 has to offer.
