Dragon Ball Transformations That Were Barely Used

Transformations are one of Dragon Ball’s most exciting concepts, but some of them have been underutilized and even forgotten.

The antagonists of Dragon Ball play a huge role in cementing its iconic nature, with characters like Frieza establishing their dominance and wowing the masses time and time again. This tyrant whips out numerous transformations that wow fans and make it clear why this antagonist deserved to be brought back in Dragon Ball Super.

    Third Form

Looks Like Toriyama Was A Huge Fan Of H.R. Giger’s Works

Frieza's third form in Dragon Ball Z

    • Debut: Frieza’s Second Transformation (Episode 82 of Dragon Ball Z)

When the battle against Frieza finally begins on Namek, the Z Warriors have no idea what they’re in for. Frieza reveals that he’s constantly in his base form and can trigger numerous terrifying transformations to multiply his power considerably.

His power unnerves the Z Warriors, even if the Third Form’s look can be a bit too extra for his own good. People unfamiliar with this show may take one look at Frieza’s Third Form and assume that it’s an anime version of the Xenomorph, and understandably so.

    First Form

Not That Intimidating To Behold, But This Is Intentional

Dragon Ball The Frieza Force, Explained - Featured

    • Debut: Brood of Evil (Episode 44 of Dragon Ball Z)

While Frieza may have an intimidating presence, some people questioned whether someone so tiny and skinny could be one of the most powerful characters in the galaxy. However, once he stepped out of his hover pod, things got serious in no time.

After displaying his power in this base form, he reveals that this is just the first of many forms that he can whip out to enhance his strength. It’s a chilling revelation that recontexualizes his unintimidating look and makes it clear that there’s still a lot he can bring to the table.

    100% Full Power

A Buff Version Of His Final Form That Looks Too Bulky

    Frieza Full Power angry

    • Debut: A Final Attack (Episode 98 of Dragon Ball Z)

After realizing that he needed to pull out all the stops to defeat Goku in his Super Saiyan form, Frieza decided to go all out. He took his sweet time to charge up and reach 100%, to the point where King Kai questions Goku for being passive as his enemy powered up.

8 Strongest Dragon Ball Characters That Have Never Fought Gohan

For one reason or another, the following Dragon Ball characters never got the chance to tangle with Gohan.

Goku’s reply made it clear that the power rush of a Super Saiyan was fueling his battle instincts, making it clear that he wanted to fight Frieza at the peak of his strength. While Frieza certainly looked intimidating in this form, his muscle mass increased to a ridiculous extent. It was surprising that he was able to retain his speed, since Super Saiyan Third Grade has shown that excess muscle can be a detriment for fighters who can’t land a punch.

    5

    Mecha Frieza

Frieza Is Restored Using Mechanical Parts By His Father

    Mecha Frieza

    • Debut: The Mysterious Youth (Episode 119 of Dragon Ball Z)

The news that Frieza and another person with the same power level was landing on Earth shocked the Z Warriors. They couldn’t fathom facing this villain, especially when they assumed that Goku got the job done.

Once he stepped out, they saw how he managed to survive. King Cold had gathered his son’s parts and reconstructed his body using artificial materials. While he was as strong as ever, Mecha Frieza was stopped in his tracks with the advent of another mysterious Super Saiyan who slashed Frieza to bits in one of the most humiliating moments in the series.

    4

    Second Form

A Large And Imposing Form That Intimidates The Z Warriors

    Frieza's Second Form

    • Debut: Fighting Power: One Million?? (Episode 78 of Dragon Ball Z)

After Frieza reveals that he can transform, the Z Warriors can only look on in horror as this fighter becomes bigger and stronger than ever. He uses his horn to spear Krillin and would’ve inflicted grievous harm on the others had it not been for Piccolo’s timely interruption.

As intimidating as this form looked, Piccolo’s Namekian Fusion gave him a fighting chance. However, it didn’t take long for Frieza to reveal that there was more to his power than what met the eye, dashing any hopes of defeating Frieza at that point.

    3

    Golden Frieza

A Regal Form That Looks Great, If A Bit Gaudy At Times

Frieza fights Goku in his Golden form in Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F

    • Debut: Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’

After being brought back in Super, it was clear that Frieza needed to unlock a new transformation to fight on equal footing with the Saiyans who had attained divine ki. This was achieved with the advent of Golden Frieza, a new form that Frieza couldn’t wait to show off to the two Saiyans he hated the most.

7 Strongest Dragon Ball Characters That Have Never Fought Vegeta

Surprisingly, these intimidating Dragon Ball characters never tangled with Vegeta.

While this form has a glorious appearance, it’s also the only major transformation that Frieza relies on in Dragon Ball Super. That may diminish its presence, but the design is still great and does an excellent job of communicating just how strong this villain has become.

    2

    Final Form

An Iconic Form That Needs No Introduction

Frieza in his final form prepares to fight Goku in Dragon Ball Z

    • Debut: Dende’s Demise (Episode 84 of Dragon Ball Z)

There’s something about Frieza’s “Final” form that still strikes terror in the hearts of fans. This form looks sleek and exudes a ton of power, making it clear why Vegeta started crying after he failed to defeat Frieza after this transformation.

Without Goku’s Super Saiyan transformation, the Z Warriors would’ve handily lost this fight. Even with all the new transformations that Frieza has unlocked, there’s something about this classic form that fans can’t get enough of.

    1

    Black Frieza

An Amazing Form That Shows How Far Frieza Has Come

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 The Case for Black Frieza

    • Debut: The Universe’s Strongest Appears (Chapter 87 of Dragon Ball Super)

Fans can’t wait for the Black Frieza form to be adapted, showing just how powerful this emperor has become after being revived following the Tournament of Power. Not only does this form look amazing with its black hues, but it’s also so ridiculously powerful that it can take out True Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta with a single hit.

It’s clear that this villain is poised for bigger and better things in the manga, and the success of Dragon Ball Daima should make it clear that there’s still a huge market that will love an official continuation of the events of Dragon Ball Super. This glorious form can completely change the power dynamics of Dragon Ball Super and force the Saiyans to reach new heights of power and take out this threat.
