The Dragon Ball Super manga has been on hiatus for over two years now. While the series has shown zero signs of returning, with continuous reports from V Jump confirming month after month of hiatus, Dragon Ball Super Volume 24’s Spanish release may have accidentally leaked art that definitively confirms the series will be continuing. Interestingly, Spanish publisher Planeta Cómic’s version of Dragon Ball Super Volume 24 includes new spine art not included in the Japanese release.
Currently, the final spine art should include Saganbo and the back half of Moro, continued from Volume 23. Planeta Cómic’s versions of Volumes 23 and 24 extend the spine art, showing Shimorekka and Seven-Three presumably about to be absorbed by Moro in his Angel form (or simply being grabbed by one of the Heeters from the Granolah the Survivor Saga). This fully confirms that Toyotarou has drawn at least two volumes’ worth of new spine art, accounting for a minimum of eight Dragon Ball Super chapters.

Dragon Ball Super Volume 24’s Spanish Release Features New Spine Art Drawn By Toyotarou
Dragon Ball Super Volume 24 collects Chapters 101 through 104 of the manga, finally catching up the series’ physical releases with Toyotarou’s last four manga chapters after almost one year since Volume 23’s release. Even in the original Japanese release of Volume 24, the manga’s spine art is clearly incomplete, cutting off with an unfinished image of Moro and Saganbo. Planeta Cómic’s release is explicit proof that Toyotarou has already planned spine art for future volumes, which means there are future chapters of Dragon Ball Super planned.
The new spine art shows off Seven-Three being plucked back by a blue hand, which could realistically be one of the Heeters. Since each volume of Dragon Ball Super runs for four chapters at the current chapter length, Toyotarou is planning at least eight more chapters (if not more, since he clearly still needs to draw whoever’s grabbing Seven-Three). At this rate, the Black Frieza Saga could run for an entire year, if not longer.

The Final Battle With Black Frieza is Nigh
Once the Dragon Ball Super manga returns, all that’s left is for the Z-Fighters to do battle with Black Frieze once and for all. Both the front and back covers of Dragon Ball Super Volume 24 tease the Black Frieza Saga, showing off all five main characters in their strongest forms on the front and Black Frieza standing menacingly on the back. Getting speculative, the spine art for the Dragon Ball Super manga can be used to determine how long the Black Frieza Saga will be.
Each volume is four chapters long, and Planeta Cómico has shown off two previously unseen columns of spine art, corresponding to a total of eight chapters. Dragon Ball Super Volume 25 will likely show Elec in full, bringing the arc up to a total of twelve chapters, but it’s highly unlikely the spine art will end with a Heeter of all characters. The original Dragon Ball manga spine art ended with a shot of Super Saiyan Goku, so it stands to reason at least one or two more volumes will be needed to show off Ultra Instinct Goku.
The mysterious yellow line that’s been cutting through the spine art since Volume 8 is also a clear reference to Goku’s pink Nimbus Cloud in Dragon Ball‘s spine art, meaning future DBS volumes will realistically show Uub on the Nimbus, like in the Dragon Ball manga’s Kanzenban ending. Best case scenario, there are still six volumes and 24 chapters left of the Dragon Ball Super manga, more than enough for Toyotarou to tell the Black Frieza Saga’s story, catch up to the Peaceful World Saga in the End of Z, and wrap up the story for good.
