Samsung isn’t done experimenting with foldables just yet. After years of rumors and patents, the company has finally shown off its first tri-fold smartphone, giving us the clearest look yet at what could become its next big category-defining device.
While it still doesn’t have an official name, the design and proportions we’ve seen suggest this might not just be a prototype anymore.

A Closer Look at Samsung’s Tri-Fold Design
The phone was first displayed at the 2025 K-Tech Showcase — sitting safely behind glass. Back then, Samsung only offered a few static shots, leaving everyone guessing how it actually looked when folded or opened.
Now, thanks to a video shared by SBS News and tech YouTuber Omokgyo Electronics (via TechRadar), we’ve got a better sense of the hardware. The clip shows the phone from multiple angles, revealing its dual-hinge setup. When folded, one hinge sits slightly wider than the other, hinting that Samsung is experimenting with asymmetrical hinge mechanics to distribute pressure evenly.
Once unfolded, the phone transforms into a 10-inch display, almost like a small tablet. The cover screen sits on the right, with the other two panels expanding outward. The whole thing looks surprisingly thin when laid flat — thinner than most people expected given that there are three separate display sections.
Familiar Galaxy DNA
From what’s visible, Samsung’s tri-fold borrows a lot from the Galaxy Z Fold7 design language. You can see a triple-camera setup with an LED flash on the back that looks nearly identical to the Fold7’s arrangement. There’s also a side-mounted power button with a fingerprint sensor and volume keys placed in a familiar right-side layout.

The rumored name floating around right now is Galaxy Z TriFold, but Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything yet. What’s interesting is that the tri-fold’s outer screen resembles a standard smartphone front, while the inside folds hide away safely — a different approach from Huawei’s Mate XT, which folds outward and leaves part of its display exposed. Samsung’s setup offers more protection but requires that extra cover screen.
Size, Slimness, and What We Can Infer
According to reports from Korean media outlets, the tri-fold’s outer screen measures around 6.5 inches, while the full interior stretches to about 10 inches diagonally. When unfolded, it might even be slimmer than the 4.2mm Galaxy Z Fold7, though it’s understandably thicker when folded shut.
The bezels look a bit chunkier than what we’ve seen on Samsung’s other premium devices — something early prototypes often show before final refinement. In other words, what we’re seeing now may not be the exact model that reaches store shelves.
What About the Cameras and Specs?
While Samsung hasn’t released detailed specifications, the tri-fold’s camera setup could be similar to the Fold7 — possibly featuring a 200MP main sensor, 12MP ultra-wide, and 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. The presence of a punch-hole camera on both the cover and internal screens suggests Samsung plans to keep selfie and video-call usability consistent across modes.
As for performance, it’s safe to assume the phone will run on Samsung’s latest Exynos or Snapdragon platform, with upgraded battery technology to handle the larger form factor. Some leaks even suggest three separate batteries inside to balance power distribution across the tri-fold structure.
When Could It Launch?
While Samsung hasn’t given an official release date, several clues point to an announcement sooner rather than later. The phone has reportedly cleared Bluetooth certification, and after being showcased publicly twice, it’s unlikely Samsung will keep it behind closed doors for much longer.
If the company follows its usual pattern, the tri-fold could debut alongside the next Galaxy Z Fold and Flip devices sometime in 2026.
Why It Matters
This tri-fold concept represents the next step in foldable evolution — a phone that can act as a compact smartphone, mini-tablet, and possibly even a multi-window productivity tool all in one. Whether it becomes a niche experiment or a mainstream product will depend on how durable and practical Samsung can make it.
