A new game published by PQube reveals strong influences from classic JRPGs, especially from Sega’s 2000 classic Skies of Arcadia.
As reported by SEGA Informant on Twitter, Sega re-registered the trademark for Skies of Arcadia. The insider also reveals that Sega has filed a new trademark for the game’s Japanese counterpart, Eternal Arcadia. While the developments are exciting, renewing trademarks doesn’t necessarily mean a future remake is in the works.
Sega Registers Trademark for Skies of Arcadia
Despite its popularity, the game never got a sequel. However, two years after the original release in 2002, the Dreamcast RPG got an enhanced port, Skies of Arcadia Legends, which launched on the Nintendo GameCube. For years, rumors have circulated about a potential Skies of Arcadia remaster, but so far, nothing has come to fruition.
While turn-based RPGs aren’t as popular as they were in the Dreamcast era, Skies of Arcadia remains one of the best JRPGs to never get a sequel. The game’s beloved characters have popped up in other games over the years, such as Vyse’s appearance in Valkyria Chronicles, hinting that Sega hasn’t forgotten about it.
