    • Lucid’s deliveries of the Gravity SUV are in the three-digit range, due to supply chain constraints.
    • The automaker began production of the vehicle in early December 2024.
    • Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff admits Lucid isn’t “where it wants to be” with Gravity production, but says the company is working to improve it in the second half of the year.

Update and correction Wednesday 10:15 p.m.: An earlier version of this story, based on S&P Global Mobility data cited by Automotive News, claimed that Lucid sold only nine Gravity SUVs through June. This figure is “completely inaccurate,” Lucid officials said, adding “the real number is well into the three-digit range.” A modified version of the original story follows below. InsideEVs regrets the error.

Lucid really wants the Gravity to be its moment. The Air sedan? It’s pretty, it’s fast and it gets a hell of a lot of range. It’s also a sedan—an expensive one at that—which isn’t exactly the best-selling form factor vehicle these days. To fix that, Lucid decided it was going to tap into America’s insatiable appetite for SUVs, and pitched the Gravity as its ticket to relevance.

However, its ramp-up has been slower than expected. A Lucid spokesperson said that sales are currently “well into the three-digit range.”

“Supply chain constraints were behind the initial issues we experienced in scaling up, but we have since addressed many of those constraints and improved manufacturing efficiency during the year,” Lucid spokesperson Nick Twork said.

“In overcoming most of these issues, we are further ramping up Lucid Gravity production, giving us confidence that we will significantly increase Lucid Gravity production in the second half of the year. To put things in perspective, just in the past few weeks, we have built more Lucid Gravity SUVs than in the first half of the year,” he said.

This echoes what Lucid warned about during its earnings report for the second quarter: it’s “not where it wants to be” with Gravity production.

“I feel that it is important to acknowledge that we are not where we want to be with Lucid Gravity production relative to our target at this point in the year,” said Lucid’s interim CEO, Marc Winterhoff, during the company’s earnings call. “However, our team has been working very hard all year to address bottlenecks in our supply chain and improve manufacturing efficiency. I’m happy to say that we have overcome most of these issues and are beginning to ramp up Lucid Gravity production.”

Supply chain bottlenecks, like Chinese-sourced rare earth magnets, have contributed to the production challenges.

The situation doesn’t seem to have phased Lucid very much. Its original production target for 2025 was 20,000 units. It has since cut that number down to “between” 18,000 and 20,000 units. The Lucid Air, according to S&P, had 4,780 registrations during the first half of 2025, which is an increase of 52% year-over-year. That leaves a lot of room for the Gravity to fill if Lucid plans to hit even its revised target.

Winterhoff’s bet is that Lucid will hit the ground running for the second half of the year. More suppliers delivering those magnets for the drive units, more trucks leaving the factory and (most importantly) more Gravities in actual custom driveways.
