Steam users have until November 17 to play Age of Wonders 4, a 4X strategy game, for free. Free-to-play weekends are nothing new to Steam users since they happen quite often on the platform. However, Age of Wonders 4‘s promotion seems to offer the best opportunity for newcomers to join the servers because of a special treat that comes with it.
The Age of Wonders series is popular on Steam among fans of strategy games, with the fourth installment sitting at around 80% positive reviews at the time of writing. And although it launched in 2023, SteamDB data shows the game has continued to maintain a loyal player base.
Age of Wonders 4 Is Currently Free to Play on Steam
Announced via a Steam community post, Age of Wonders 4‘s free-to-play weekend began on November 13 and will run through November 17. During the promotion, players will have access to the game’s base content. Developer Triumph Studios has also announced that Age of Wonders 4‘s preorder DLC, which includes Tigran hero Aric Rex, an exclusive lion plate armor set, the Athlan crown, and an Imperial Cape, is free for all users to claim. For those unfamiliar with the franchise’s turn-based 4X strategy gameplay, the developer has produced a complete beginner’s guide on YouTube to help newcomers adapt to the core mechanics as quickly as possible.
Thanks to the nearly hour-and-a-half-long tutorial video, the current free Age of Wonders 4 event offers the perfect opportunity for turn-based strategy game fans to try it out. Produced in collaboration with content creator Ursa Ryan, the video covers basic features like population and city economy that every player should understand before building their first empire.
Even better, until November 26, the $50 USD game will be 50% off, reducing its price to about $25. There is also a 35% discount on the Premium Edition of Age of Wonders 4. The game features several expansion packs that introduce new rulers, cultures, and campaign stories, but these DLCs are sold separately and are not included in the current free-to-play promotion.
Steam users interested in free-to-play PC games should note that Age of Wonders 4 isn’t the only title available this weekend at no cost. Another promotion is underway for a co-op game called King of Meat, letting Steam users try it out before buying. However, both promotions end on November 17, after which players will need to purchase the games if they want to continue playing.
