One of the few big PlayStation 5 titles arriving in January, Code Vein 2, will not support enhancement features exclusive to the PS5 Pro. Code Vein 2 will play the same on a PS5 Pro as it will on a normal PS5, meaning the PS5 Pro’s exclusive features will be unavailable for players to take advantage of.

Before its November 2024 launch, the PS5 Pro was one of Sony’s worst-kept secrets, as various leaks and information concerning the system made the rounds on social media months beforehand. As a supplementary counterpart to the base PS5 console, the PS5 Pro has an upgraded GPU compared to the base PS5, and a 2TB internal solid-state drive (SSD) for players to utilize. One of the PS5 Pro’s top perks is PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), an upscaling technology that allows specific games to play at a high resolution and high frame rate without sacrificing as much graphical quality as AMD’s FSR upscaler. However, the PS5 Pro carries a steep price tag of $749.99, and doesn’t include a disc drive as part of the base package.

2 of the Biggest PS5 Games Releasing This Month Are Completely Free to Play

Two of the biggest games releasing for the PlayStation 5 in January 2026 can be played absolutely free of charge.

Code Vein 2 Offers PS5 Pro Users No Special Perks

Despite the PS5 Pro boasting PSSR and other features that are marked improvements over the base PS5, one of the PS5’s upcoming titles will not take advantage of them. Bandai Namco’s upcoming action RPG Code Vein 2 will not support any of the PS5 Pro’s bonus features at launch. However, the game will still run on a PS5 Pro the same way that it would on a standard PS5 console, just without any of the enhanced PS5 Pro features that make it a pricier console. Given that Code Vein 2 is a Soulslike action RPG that relies on high framerates to dodge and counter various enemy attacks, the fact that the PS5 Pro’s features will not be utilized to help with maintaining high performance is a curious decision from the development team.

Although Code Vein 2 is a sequel to the 2019 title Code Vein, little to no knowledge of the first title is required to enjoy Code Vein 2. The upcoming Bandai Namco title features a robust character creator that allows players to make their own Revenant Hunter as their avatar. One of Code Vein 2‘s core mechanics will be time travel, as the Revenant Hunter teams up with a girl called Lou, whose time-travelling powers allow the player character to alter the present by changing events in the past and saving the world from certain destruction. Players can drain and acquire the blood of their fallen foes to unleash various attacks, and can also use Code Vein 2‘s new build system to customize different skills and weapons to suit their playstyles. Code Vein 2‘s battle system will incorporate various NPC partners who join the Revenant Hunter on their quest, and each partner has unique abilities that can turn the tide of a battle.

Code Vein 2’s January Arrival Precludes a Busy 2026 in Gaming

With Code Vein 2 locked in for a January 29 launch on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, the game looks to perform about the same on each available platform. For the PC version in particular, Code Vein 2‘s recommended system specs include an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU or newer, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 GPU or newer, and at least 16GB of DDR4 or DDR5 RAM.

Despite the lack of specific PS5 Pro perks for players to use, Code Vein 2 will be one of the first major video game releases of 2026 on the PS5. With other titles like Resident Evil Requiem, Nioh 3, and Crimson Desert still scheduled to launch on the PS5 in the opening quarter of the year, it remains to be seen which 2026 titles will give PS5 Pro players something unique to look forward to.
