World of Warcraft recently shared a survey that introduced several new specialization ideas, including a tank Shaman, healing Mage, and support DPS Paladin. While this is far from confirmation that they will be coming to the game at any point, it proves World of Warcraft is considering adding new specs in response to the excitement around the Devourer Demon Hunter.
It is almost Midnight in Azeroth, with the new World of Warcraft expansion right around the corner. The full release is on March 2, but the World of Warcraft: Midnight Pre-Expansion Update arrives January 20, which adds many of its core features, including the highly-anticipated Devourer Demon Hunter, a ranged DPS version of the popular class.

WoW Survey Introduces Several New Specialization Ideas
However, it seems like World of Warcraft is already thinking about adding even more new specs to the game. WoW fan and Wowhead contributor Portergauge shared an image of a Blizzard survey on Bluesky they received from an anonymous player that introduced new specialization ideas for most of the classes in World of Warcraft. Several other fans corroborated that they had received the same survey, and confirmed these 10 theoretical specs appeared within it:
- Healer Hunter: Utilizing a melee and ranged arsenal, team up with your pet to disperse bandages, medicines, and tinctures to those in need. Administer first aid to your team as you dart and weave along the battlefield, with your pet complimenting each heal with its own.
- Support Priest: Bless allies with inner fire, increasing their effectiveness in battle. Smite enemies with bolts of light to build up divine power, eventually performing holy words which can burn enemies to ash.
- Ranged DPS Monk: Overload your inner spirit, manifesting your Chi as crackling lightning bolts and sharp projectiles. Bend the flow of the target’s own spirit — disrupting and unraveling them from within while maintaining their own perfect spiritual balance.
- Tank Shaman: Master the element of Earth. Raise boulders as physical shields or to shatter against your enemies, manipulate terrain to hinder and disable enemies, and harness the earth’s deep, latent energies to fortify and empower yourself.
- Tank Rogue: Deft duelists who use their precision for protection, deflecting blows with parries and quick dodges. They utilize poisons to weaken their foes and tinctures mid-battle to restore their health.
- Ranged DPS Priest (Holy): A radiant caster that scorches foes with searing smites and consecrating flames. Ascend into an angelic form, channeling pure, unbroken beams of celestial radiance that pierce through ranks of enemies.
- Support Paladin: Perform holy rites and channel the Light to bestow potent blessings on allies, consecrate their armor for resilience and their weaponry to strike with precision and power, and bolster their spirits to amplify inner strengths.
- Tank Warlock: Channeling Fel energies through maces and rune shields, these Warlocks ward themselves and their allies from damage. They command a host of demons, siphoning their essence for vitality, binding their souls to share incoming damage, or unleashing them in waves to overwhelm their enemies.
- Ranged DPS Death Knight: Unleash the powers of a lich, wielding necrotic and frost magic to torment the souls of your enemies. Conjure corrupting phantasms, grasping hands, and chains of ice to assail your foes, while avoiding death yourself within your phylactery.
- Healer Mage: Use your Arcane Magic to alter the reality of time to cure the wounds of your allies. Preemptively react to enemy combat by shielding and buffing allies with potent elemental magic.
During WoW Classic Season of Discovery, Rune Engravings made it possible for Shamans, Rogues, and Warlocks to tank and Mages to heal in similar ways to those described in the survey.
During Dragonflight, World of Warcraft added a third spec to the new Evoker class in the form of the Augmentation support DPS specialization. Though flawed, the Augmentation Evoker was exciting, despite being released during the same expansion as the class itself. The Devourer Demon Hunter coming in WoW: Midnight, however, arrives nearly 10 years after the class itself, making its addition particularly auspicious and noteworthy. Given how much excitement it has already spawned before even being released, it is no surprise that WoW is considering more.
There are a lot of reasons why this could be a huge deal for World of Warcraft. Adding a full class to the game is hard, as it requires far more work than making new specializations would. World of Warcraft already has the framework to add new specs as well, as it has done so twice before, and thanks to the Druid, class UI can easily hold up to four specializations. What’s more, this allows World of Warcraft to give fan-favorite classes new playstyles and even new roles, which would be especially helpful for DPS-only classes like the Hunter, Mage, Rogue, or Warlock.
Of course, there are a few downsides to this approach as well. If World of Warcraft dedicated itself to making a fourth specialization for every class, that would probably mean no new classes for a long time. Additionally, a fourth spec also means they would have to create a fourth Hero Talent for each class, as each one is shared between two specs, which would be even more work. Lastly, Druid fans would likely be out of luck for a long time, as they already have four specializations and Hero Talents in World of Warcraft.
When Could World of Warcraft Add New Classes or Specializations?
It is important to emphasize that this is not confirmation World of Warcraft is going to add more specs to the game, and if it does, there is no telling which of these ideas could be used. The only thing it does confirm is that World of Warcraft is considering the idea. Regardless, the fact it is in a survey means nothing concrete has probably been developed yet, so it is extremely unlikely any of these would see the light of day until after World of Warcraft: The Last Titan and the Worldsoul Saga, simply due to development time required.
That said, if players are lucky, they might actually get a new class in The Last Titan. Some previous surveys hinted at exciting World of Warcraft class ideas, including Bard and Tinker. While nothing has been confirmed at the moment, players might could easily see a new class in The Last Titan, and if it goes on to start making a bunch of new specializations afterward, it could be the last one for a long time.
