A producer at DICE says that he is confident that the release of Battlefield 6 on October 10 will be much more successful than the release of Battlefield 2042. After a successful open beta in August, the launch of Battlefield 6 has become one of the most anticipated games in October. Looking back at the struggles that Battlefield 2042 had, the studio feels optimistic thanks to the feedback they received from the community.

When Battlefield 2042 was released in November 2021, DICE had ambitious plans for the game. Large-scale maps for matches that could hold up to 128 players and a lack of a campaign in Battlefield 2042 didn’t quite sit well with long-time Battlefield players. User reviews reflected this, with current ratings at a 2.4/10 on Metacritic. So, DICE returned to the drawing board for Battlefield 6 to create an experience that would be for the fans, with the help of the fans.

Battlefield 6 Returns to the Basics and Involves Player Feedback

Speaking to PCGamesN, DICE producer Jeremy Chubb says that they knew their ambitions were high with Battlefield 2042, but Battlefield 6 is returning to their successful roots of prior games. “This game is much more in tune with what we built in Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, particularly,” Chubbs told PCGamesN. “Aspects of those games come through really strong.” Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 are two of the highest-rated Battlefield games released in the long-running series.

Chubb also points out that DICE and EA turned to the players to help to solidify the Battlefield 6 development with Battlefield Labs. He says that the energy of the audience after the Battlefield 6 beta has been overwhelming. “There’s a confidence to us because we set up to work with the community. We have this program, Battlefield Labs. We put sometimes quite crude software in front of people, and that was a journey we all had to go on together to show in-development experiences.”

Battlefield 6 devs explain the game's controversial quick turn option.

The changes made by DICE to create a Battlefield 6 experience that the fans will enjoy paid off for the studio in August. By the end of its first weekend, Battlefield 6 became the franchise’s largest open beta with concurrent players peaking at 473,632 on Steam. Chubb thinks that everyone contributing to helping the game succeed could hold some value. “I don’t think we needed reminding that there are a lot of Battlefield fans out there,” says Chubb. “And they’re super passionate about the experiences that we build.”
