Battlefield 6 has officially set a new series record for the biggest open beta in Battlefield history. While the latest entry in EA’s long-running shooter franchise doesn’t come out in full until October 10, 2025, it’s already off to a strong start. The Battlefield 6 open beta isn’t over yet, and it has already brought the series to new heights.
EA has placed a heavy emphasis on playtesting for its latest Battlefield game. The closed beta program Battlefield Labs began on March 7 and saw several changes come to the game in response to player feedback. Now, the Battlefield Studios team is keeping the trend going with an open beta, and it has been a big hit so far.
Battlefield 6 Has the Biggest Open Beta of Any Battlefield Game
The official Battlefield Twitter account confirmed the news on August 9, two days after Early Access players got access to the beta and the same day that the beta started in full. While EA didn’t offer any specific figures, it’s safe to say the new game didn’t just break the record but smashed it, considering Battlefield 6 peaked at 473,632 concurrent players on Steam. That’s more than any other title in the franchise, not just those that had a publicly accessible beta. It was also enough to cement the game as the fourth most-played title on Steam at the time.
Excitement over the latest Battlefield game is clearly high, but not everything has been smooth for the title. EA stirred up some frustration from fans when it confirmed the use of bots in the game’s multiplayer, although the company has since clarified that Battlefield 6‘s open beta only uses bots in one playlist and that players can avoid them entirely. The series also did not have the luxury of a strong last release, as Battlefield 2042 largely fell flat among both critics and consumers.
The game also still has time to keep setting series records. The Battlefield 6 open beta’s next round begins on August 14 and will run until August 17. It’s uncertain if enough people will join from here to match the monumental heights of the first weekend, but regardless of what happens, the Battlefield franchise has seemingly rebounded from its disappointing last entry in minimal time. It’s similarly not guaranteed that the full release will be as popular, but all signs are looking pretty promising so far.
