The Red Prince is easily one of the most memorable cast members of Divinity: Original Sin 2, thanks to his innate charm and sheer charisma. After all, this Lizard Nobility is apparently an exiled prince that wishes to regain his power. And the players, his companions, and everyone around him are simply instruments he can use towards his ultimate prize.
Divinity Original Sin 2: Best Builds For Lohse
Lohse is one of Divinity 2’s most versatile characters. These builds will help you get the very most out of her.
As a member of the Pre-Made Origins, players will soon realize that there’s more to the Red Prince than his rather elitist and princely nature. Thankfully, Larian Studios allows players to capitalize on the Red Prince’s talents to become a valuable asset to his comrades. However, just which abilities best fit this elegant warrior?
Updated December 31, 2025, by Hamza Haq: The Red Prince has one of the most interesting companion storylines in Divinity: Original Sin 2, and many players will want to bring him along as a main party member during their journey across Rivellon for his sarcastic quips and self-absorbed rants alone. Naturally, knowing what builds are best suited for the Red Prince is key to ensuring that he remains just as cutting in combat as he is in dialogue.

The Immortal Cleric
Focus On: Hydrosophist, Aerothurge, Necromancer (Optional)
The Red Prince’s biggest strength is his survivability and his ability to tank more damage than non-Lizard companions. When built as a cleric, this means the Red Prince will have less trouble staying alive in comparison and will get the opportunity to use his skills reliably.
For healers and utility casters, there is nothing more important than staying alive for as long as possible. The Red Prince’s inherent racial skill, the Dragon’s Blaze, does not matter too much for this build since his role in this build does not require him to get into melee range.
This build can fit into both magic and physical parties, since the Red Prince’s main goal as an immortal Cleric isn’t to do damage anyway. In magic damage-focused parties, this build can rely on Aerothurge’s damage-dealing spells to help out, whereas in physical damage-focused parties, branching out into Necromancer for some Intelligence-scaling physical damage skills is the way to go.
Key Stats For This Build
- Intelligence is the bread and butter for the immortal Cleric, as it directly impacts every single skill the Red Prince will use.
- Get Constitution to at least 15 as early as possible to get the survivability aspect of the build down.
- Wits is unimportant here, as this build doesn’t care if it goes first or last in the turn order.
Focus On: Polymorph, Two-Handed
In Rivellon’s lore, the Red Prince’s Lizard race apparently descended from dragons. The Metamorph Starting Class can help roleplayers achieve this kind of unique build.
With this Class, the Red Prince obtains the Opportunist Talent that lets him make Opportunity Attacks to adjacent foes that try to leave him. Likewise, his Polymorph specialization adds him a unique set of melee attacks to complement his Two-Handed prowess. For instance, he begins with Bull Horns that can give him horns to close the gap between enemies and Tentacle Lash that can help him attack mid-range with a giant tentacle. Lastly, his Chicken Claw can transform even bosses into chickens.
Divinity Original Sin 2: The Best Builds For Fane
If used well, the Undead Fane can be a great party member in Larian Studios’ Divinity: Original Sin 2. What are some builds for the character?
Interestingly enough, even focusing on Metamorph will give the Red Prince interesting perks via Polymorph. For instance, the Red Prince can gain more “transformations” such as wings for mobility (Spread Your Wings), spider legs and webbing (Spider Legs), and even swap terrain outright (Terrain Transmutation).
Key Stats For This Build
- Choose either Strength or Finesse as your primary damage-dealing stats and stick to them. Which one you choose depends on what your main weapon scales with for damage.
- Constitution is important, as the Polymorph wants to put himself in harm’s way at every opportunity, meaning the Red Prince will be in the center of the action if played correctly.
- Some points into Wits wouldn’t go amiss, as the Exotic Metamorph shines more when it is early in the turn order.
5
The Flame Conjurer
Focus On: Summoning
As the Red Prince so often clarifies, it’s not his job to do what peasants should be doing for him. With the Conjurer Starting Class, the Red Prince can sit back and enjoy as his minions fight his battles.
Conjurers begin with a straightforward set of spells. They have a long-range attack with Summoning’s Dimensional Bolt if necessary. However, their main crux is summoning and empowering Incarnates and Elemental Totems, both of which have special abilities designed to take opponents down.
The Red Prince has a unique advantage as a Conjurer: his Flame Breath. One of the most troublesome parts of being a Conjurer in the early and mid-game is the fact that, in order to summon elemental-infused incarnates, players need to find an elemental surface. With Flame Breath, the Red Prince has an easy, 1AP move to get a fire surface on command with no downtime.
Key Stats For This Build
- Summoner weapons scale with Intelligence, which also increases the strength of the summons.
- After getting the necessary skill slots from Memory, split the remaining points into Constitution (for health) and Wits (for initiative).
- Take the Far Out Man talent as early as possible for long-range summons.
4
The Scrappy Fighter
Focus On: Warfare, Geomancer
Upon recruiting the Red Prince, he asks players to make him a Fighter first. And interestingly enough, going for a Pure Fighter can help players capitalize on the Red Prince’s skillset. Not to mention, the Fighter is the most faithful starting Class to his story.
Thankfully, this Class almost immediately sets up the Red Prince to become an effective tank in the early game of DOS2. With his Warfare specialization, he gains access to starting Skills such as Battle Stomp and Bouncing Shield, easily giving him the upper hand in mid-range combat. Likewise, he starts with the basic Geomancer Skill Fortify, enabling him to boost his defense.
Additionally, making a pure Fighter via a Warfare and Geomancer focus can make the Red Prince an indomitable melee force in the endgame. For instance, his later Warfare moves involve an all-around attack (Whirlwind), a high-speed burst (Onslaught), and varied buffs. Meanwhile, Geomancer allows the Red Prince to complement his physical damage from Warfare skills with Impalement, Corrosive Spray, and Reactive Armor.
Key Stats For This Build
- Strength should be your primary, damage-dealing stat focus for the Fighter Red Prince, and Constitution is required for additional vitality.
- Fighters use One-Handed weapons for their main hand and shields in their off-hand, which is why putting early points into Single-Handed is very important.
- Wits is extremely useful for Fighters, as it allows them to move first in the turn order, which in turn allows them to get into Attack of Opportunity range with enemies.
3
The Elemental Wizard
Focus On: Pyrokinetic, Geomancer
The Pyro + Geo combo is a classic mage setup in Divinity: Original Sin 2, and the Red Prince is perhaps the most suited for this build among all the origin companions. The main idea behind the Elemental Wizard is to deal damage through elemental interactions generated when fire skills from Pyrokinetic and earth skills from Geomancer interact.
Divinity Original Sin 2: Best Builds For Sebille
The most cutthroat character in Divinity: Original Sin 2, Sebille has a lot to offer the party. Which builds make the most of her skills?
The most basic example of this is using Fossil Strike first to create an Oil surface on an enemy, then following it up with Searing Daggers to light the oil up on fire to deal massive damage in addition to the base damage dealt by both skills. Fire interacts explosively with both oil and poison, making the elemental Wizard a potent threat at any stage of the game.
The synergy of these two skill schools in DOS2 is unparalleled, but it only really works when the entire party is magic damage-focused. Adding melee characters like Fighters and Knights into the mix puts them into harm’s way, preventing the elemental wizard from going all out when the situation calls for it.
Key Stats For This Build
- Both Intelligence and Wits should be the priority for the Red Prince in this build, as moving first is just as important as hitting hard.
- A couple of points into Aerothurge are warranted to get access to Teleportation, giving the Red Prince a much-needed reposition ability.
- Elemental Affinity and Far Out Man are must-have talents for this build.
2
The Warrior Prince
Focus On: Warfare, Two-Handed
The Red Prince being both a noble and a warrior would fit the stereotype of Prince Charming, and the Knight Starting Class personifies this the best. And interestingly enough, the straightforwardness of the Knight Class reflects on its abilities. It’s straightforward focus on Warfare and Two-Handed will give the Red Prince the best edge in melee combat.
As the Knight, the Red Prince can give Opportunity Attacks to opponents who try to leave his adjacent space via the Opportunist Talent. This works well with his starting Warfare Skills. The Red Prince can use Battering Ram to close gaps between him and enemies, but he can also use Battle Stomp to knock them down from afar. Likewise, he can use Crippling Blow to stop them in their tracks completely.
If players continue the straight Warfare route, just going toe to toe against the Red Prince would end up badly for anyone. Some of the best Warfare Skills in DOS2 are buffs the Red Prince could use to his advantage. For instance, Guardian Angel forces attacks to hit him instead of allies, and he can get empowered the more people are around him with Thick Of The Fight.
Key Stats For This Build
- Strength and Constitution are the most obvious (and correct) choices for the Warrior Prince.
- Put a few points into Wits in the mid-game to ensure you’re not at the absolute tail end of the turn order.
- The Picture of Health talent synergizes extremely well with this build, as the Red Prince will be maxing out Warfare very early on.
1
The Battlemage Tank
Focus On: Aerotheurge, Geomancer, Pyrokinetic
The Red Prince’s Lizard race gives him greater survivability compared to other companions in Divinity: Original Sin 2, making him incredibly suitable for the battlemage playstyle, slinging magic attacks in melee range. This also naturally pairs up with the Red Prince’s Dragon’s Blaze default skill.
The main idea behind this build is to give the Red Prince the ability to tie up enemies at close range, using disabling skills like Shocking Touch and AoE skills like Supernova. Due to the Red Prince’s heightened resistance, he fulfils the role of a dedicated tank in a magic-focused party, allowing party members to fling wide AoE skills that can hit friendlies without worrying about him as much.
Aerothurge also gives him access to Netherswap and Teleportation, allowing him to reposition himself and his enemies, a necessary skill for a battlemage that needs to close the distance. With this build, the Red Prince will take a lot of damage, so having a supporting character with some points in Hydrosophist to heal him up during battle is a necessary requirement at higher difficulties like Tactician.
Key Stats For This Build
- Intelligence and Constitution should be the main focus in the early game to get damage and survivability online.
- A few points in Memory will be good quality-of-life in the mid-game when skill slots start becoming contested.
- Get the Torturer talent as soon as possible; this will ensure that your utility skills can apply their status effects to enemies without worrying about whether their Magic armor is depleted or not.
