A Borderlands 4 player recently calculated the total number of SDU (Storage Deck Upgrade) tokens players will need to unlock every upgrade in the game, and while it’s a high number as expected, it’s actually less than the total number of tokens that can be acquired. In a recent Reddit post, user repapap revealed that it takes a total of 3,225 SDU tokens to unlock every upgrade in Borderlands 4, each of which can be collected by completing a variety of challenges and finding collectibles in the game.
Historically, SDUs Borderlands series have allowed players to upgrade their ammo pools for each weapon archetype, maximum inventory space, and more. Borderlands 4 brings back SDUs, though they are purchasable using SDU tokens this time, rather than regular cash or Eridium as they have been in past entries.
Borderlands 4 Players Can Unlock All SDUs for 3,225 Tokens and Still Have Some Left Over
What’s most interesting about repapap’s SDU study is not just how many tokens it takes to unlock every upgrade in Borderlands 4 but also how many players will have remaining once they do unlock everything, assuming they collect every token in the game. User repapap’s purpose in doing this was to presumably help players decide which activities and collectibles were worth completing and collecting more than others, thereby potentially saving them some time.
Here are the SDU categories players can upgrade using the tokens they find:
- Pistol Ammo
- SMG Ammo
- Assault Rifle Ammo
- Shotgun Ammo
- Sniper Rifle Ammo
- Backpack
- Bank
- Lost Loot
According to repapap, if players collect every SDU token in Borderlands 4, they will end up with an extra 565 tokens after they’ve purchased every upgrade. They went on to explain their process in deciding what activities and collectibles were actually worth the effort, stating that this extra pool of tokens somewhat trivializes collecting Vault Symbols and Lost Capsules in Borderlands 4.
While SDU tokens can be earned in a variety of ways in Borderlands 4, there are still plenty of activities and collectibles in the game that are not tied to SDUs in any way. Thus, Reddit user repapap went on to help players even more by lining out every collectible in Borderlands 4 that does not award SDU tokens upon their acquisition.
