DxOMark has published its camera review of the Vivo X300 Ultra, and the results may come as a surprise. Despite being Vivo’s most advanced and expensive camera-focused smartphone, the X300 Ultra scored 170 points, placing it just behind the Vivo X300 Pro, which achieved 171 points. The current DxOMark leader remains Huawei’s Pura 80 Ultra with 175 points.

While the one-point difference between the two Vivo flagships is unlikely to be noticeable in real-world photography, the result stands out given the X300 Ultra’s more ambitious camera hardware and premium positioning.

Video Performance Holds the X300 Ultra Back

According to DxOMark, one of the key reasons for the X300 Ultra’s lower overall score was its video performance. The device received a lower video rating than the X300 Pro, particularly in low-light scenarios.

The review noted more visible image noise and less consistent processing in challenging lighting conditions. In comparison, the X300 Pro reportedly handled exposure, dynamic range, and noise reduction more effectively during video recording.

Zoom and Portrait Photography Remain Key Strengths

Where the Vivo X300 Ultra shines is in photography. DxOMark awarded high scores for telephoto, ultra-wide, portrait, and zoom performance, areas where Vivo has invested heavily in hardware.

The smartphone’s camera setup appears particularly well-suited for users who frequently capture distant subjects, wildlife, travel scenes, or portrait shots. For these users, the X300 Ultra could still be the more appealing option despite its slightly lower overall ranking.

    Hardware Power vs Balanced Performance

DxOMark also highlighted occasional image artifacts and instances where image processing appeared somewhat unnatural. However, this is not unique to Vivo, as many smartphone brands increasingly rely on computational photography and AI-driven image enhancements.

The results reinforce an ongoing debate in smartphone photography: overall rankings do not always reflect individual shooting preferences. While the Vivo X300 Pro appears to offer a more balanced camera experience across different scenarios, the X300 Ultra focuses on delivering stronger performance in specialized photography categories, even if that comes with some trade-offs.

Ultimately, the DxOMark scores suggest that choosing the better camera phone may depend less on rankings and more on how users actually take their photos and videos.
