Key Takeaways
- Techland has a new job listing hinting at an unannounced game being developed alongside its other upcoming titles.
- Besides Dying Light: The Beast, Techland is also working on a fantasy action RPG with leads from CD Project Red.
- Another job listing at Techland suggests a new IP in development, possibly including multiplayer features.
It seems Dying Light developer Techland may be busier than anticipated as a new job listing points to another unannounced game besides the two other projects the studio has in development. Just last month at Gamescom Opening Night Live, Techland revealed Dying Light: The Beast. Originally meant to be DLC for 2022’s Dying Light 2, The Beast has become its own smaller-scaled standalone title starring the original game’s protagonist, Kyle Crane, and is unofficially expected to release in 2025.
Dying Light: The Beast isn’t all that Techland has up its sleeve though. A few months after the release of Dying Light 2 in 2022, Techland announced that it had begun working on an open-world fantasy action RPG, a far cry from what the studio has become known for. Little else is known about Techland’s fantasy project other than the fact that several of its leads have worked with CD Project Red on the past two Witcher titles as well as on Cyberpunk 2077. Other key team members hail from Ubisoft, Arkane Lyon, and Guerrilla Games, but there has yet to be another update on the project since its initial announcement in 2022.
Now, it seems that Techland is cooking up yet another project alongside Dying Light: The Beast, the yet-to-be-unveiled fantasy RPG, and ongoing support for Dying Light 2. As spotted by Tech4Gamers, a recent Techland job listing calling for an Unreal Engine 5 Level Artist explicitly mentions that the position is for an all-new IP “in addition to Dying Light and the fantasy game.” Furthermore, another job listing for a UE5 AI Programmer is seeking candidates who have experience with FPP and multiplayer games.
Techland Is Working On Another New IP Besides Dying Light And Its Fantasy RPG
It’s unclear whether the AI Programmer listing’s mention of multiplayer is hinting toward co-op or a competitive PvP experience. Techland already has a ton of experience with co-op, seeing that both Dying Light games are fully playable with friends. However, this being a new IP leaves room for the studio to be able to experiment with a true PvP game. Additionally, the mention of FPP, which likely stands for first-person perspective, makes sense, since the studio has found a lot of success with its first-person titles. It’ll be interesting to see whether Techland’s celebrated first-person parkour expertise will make the jump into this new IP, as it’s one of the only AAA studios that still incorporates first-person parkour. While EA’s Mirror’s Edge series has remained dormant, Xbox’s upcoming first-person Perfect Dark reboot showed off some interesting parkour elements earlier this summer.
Since Techland is busy bringing the freshly revealed Dying Light: The Beast to the finish line, it may be some time before fans of the acclaimed studio can expect to hear more about this mysterious new IP. Even so, with over two years having passed since its announcement, it’s possible that Techland’s fantasy RPG is further along in development and may be ready to be revealed before the studio unveils this new IP. Fans should keep an eye on Techland’s social media for more details about all three of its upcoming projects, as well as its ongoing support for Dying Light 2.
