Fans of Amazon’s massively popular show Fallout are finally able to get their hands on Season 2 (or at least the first episode), and it has already managed to surpass the success of both its first season and every other live-action video game adaptation. Fallout was already renewed for Season 3 before the debut of Season 2, showing just how much confidence both Amazon and Bethesda have in the series and its future. It seems as if fans may not have to wait long for Season 3, as executive producer Jonathan Nolan has already declared that filming will begin in the summer of 2026.
Video game adaptations can be tricky to navigate, as evidenced by the many franchises that have tried and failed to impress audiences with big-budget movies and television shows. This means it has broken a record and scored higher with both critics and fans than the second season of any live-action video game adaptation, which includes HBO’s The Last of Us. Fallout‘s impressive Season 2 scores mean that, as a whole, the series is also the highest-rated live-action adaptation of any video game franchise ever. This means Fallout has managed to pass other successful live-action adaptations like Twisted Metal and Halo. Many fans feel that Fallout could be laying a new foundation for video game adaptations, shaping what shows like this could look like in the future. With the success of shows like Fallout and The Last of Us, a lot of fans have high hopes for future adaptations of franchises like God of War, Elden Ring, Death Stranding, and so many more.
The high bar set by Fallout isn’t just limited to live-action adaptations, however, as it has even surpassed many animated adaptations as well. When it comes to audience scores, Fallout, rated at 94%, is even knocking on the door of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which is rated at 95%. For context, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has the highest audience score of any video game adaptation ever made. The two were initially tied when Season 2 of Fallout made its debut, though the score has changed in the last few hours. For some, one of the greatest strengths of Fallout has to do with how Amazon and Bethesda approached adapting the major gaming franchise, as it doesn’t attempt to perfectly recreate any of the games.
