The highly anticipated conclusion to the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, which began with 2020’s FF7 Remake and continued with 2024’s FF7 Rebirth, is coming close to having an official title. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that this is largely internal, and fans will still have a long wait until they themselves know.

Luckily, it seems it won’t take longer for some fans to play it than others. While Final Fantasy 7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth both released on PlayStation consoles first, series director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed in September that the final part of the FF7 Remake trilogy will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. And while the final part is still some years away, it’s nice to see how Square Enix has continued to keep fans informed.

According to the trilogy’s director, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has an internal release date, but Square Enix is reluctant to share.

News regarding the title comes from a Julien Chieze interview back in October (found and translated via Genkin_JPN). During it, Hamaguchi revealed that he and creative director Tetsuya Nomura have “narrowed [the title] down to two, and within this year, we’ll finalize which one.” In other words, by January 1, Square Enix will have decided on a proper title for the next part, but fans may have to wait for the next big reveal to learn it themselves.

When the next big reveal will be remains to be seen, although fans should probably not expect it at the 2025 Game Awards this year. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is still pretty fresh, for example, but it’s clear that Square Enix continues to move forward with the project. Perhaps, sometime after the reveal of the official title or its release, fans could learn what the runner-up was.

What Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3’s Proper Title Could Be

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Naoki Hamaguchi

Fan speculation on the title of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has been rampant ever since it was revealed to be a multi-part release. First and foremost, it seems pretty clear that each title will retain the “Re” structure for consistency. That could change in theory, but on this assumption, some possibilities (as discussed around the fandom and beyond) include the following:

    • Final Fantasy 7 Requiem
    • Final Fantasy 7 Resurrection
    • Final Fantasy 7 Renewal

Without going into spoilers, not only do each of these titles have a strong connection to Final Fantasy 7‘s storyline and themes, but each would also spur on its own speculation. Given the numerous changes across FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth, that speculation could do a lot to build hype alongside the name, so no doubt Nomura and Hamaguchi both understand how important of a decision it will be. If anything, we’re kind of jealous they’ll know for months, if not years, before fans do. After all, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 release date is years away for sure.

If the development and release cycle of the past two games (2020/2024) is any indication, fans could perhaps see the final part as early as 2028. Earlier is possible, in theory, but then or later feels more likely. Part 3 will inevitably be the exclamation mark on the project, so Square Enix will want to make sure it wraps up everything with a bang. Until then, each of these Final Fantasy 7 games has plenty of content for players to enjoy.

Similarly, if they have enjoyed the first two FF7 remakes but never played the original, the next few years are prime time to go back and see the original ending before FF7 Remake Part 3 inevitably adds a few twists to it.
