A Final Fantasy 8 fan shows off her replica of Squall’s gunblade, one of the most iconic weapons in the entire franchise. Wielded by Squall Leonhart and Seifer Almasy, the gunblade was primarily featured in Final Fantasy 8, but has since established itself as a Final Fantasy staple. It appeared in Final Fantasy 12 as part of the Gilgamesh boss fight, in Final Fantasy 13 as a weapon type for Lightning, and in Final Fantasy 14 as the designated weapon for the Gunbreaker job.
The Gunbreaker in Final Fantasy 14 is probably the most comprehensive take on the archetype, with Gaius Baelsar and Thancred Waters being notable wielders of the gunblade. Thanks to the glamour system in Final Fantasy 14, players can change the appearance of their gunblade to their favorite model – with Squall’s Revolver made available by purchasing the DIgital Deluxe version of Shadowbringers.

A Final Fantasy 8 Remake Shouldn’t Be a Totally Faithful Adaptation
A potential Final Fantasy 8 remake shouldn’t replicate everything from the original, especially one heavily criticized game mechanic.
The Revolver appears to be Reddit user AlyGainsboroughx’s weapon of choice as well, as she shared a picture of herself wielding Squall’s famous gunblade. The replica was shared with the Final Fantasy community on Reddit, noting that it was made by Hero Forge. The Revolver is the starting weapon in Final Fantasy 8, and as such, is easily outclassed by better gunblade models. Despite this, it remains present in pre-rendered cutscenes, making the Revolver the definitive weapon for Squall. Final Fantasy 8 remains a beloved part of the franchise, and many fans hope that it will one day receive a modern remake similar to Final Fantasy 7.
Final Fantasy Fan Showcases Replica of Squall’s Iconic Gunblade
The handiwork seen in AlyGainsboroughx’s photo lovingly recreates the Revolver. Much like the original model, the replica also features an etched winged lion on the side of the blade. Despite having a gun chamber, Squall’s gunblade is exclusively wielded as a melee weapon, with each shot enhancing the sword’s damage potential rather than firing a projectile. While it is responsible for making gunblades popular, Final Fantasy 8 is also remembered for Triple Triad, a card game that became insanely popular among fans. It was added to Final Fantasy 14 in A Realm Reborn.
Though it remains to be seen where Final Fantasy will go next, Square Enix has asked its players for feedback on the Final Fantasy franchise and its future via an extensive survey. It may be a while until players see any official news or footage of Final Fantasy 17. However, it should be noted that Part 3 of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is under development as well.
