If rare cars are your thing, here’s something that might suit you: there’s a brand new Lordstown Endurance electric pickup for sale on Facebook Marketplace right now. It has less than 300 miles on the odometer, and the owner, who is in Linden, Michigan, is asking for $32,000.
That’s half the price compared to the original $65,520 window sticker, and a pretty compelling offer for what the Endurance promises–at least on paper. The Ohio-built EV has four in-wheel electric motors providing all-wheel drive and a peak output of 550 horsepower.

It’s one of the few production cars to be fitted with in-wheel motors, but that’s really where the praise comes to an end. Even the term “production” needs to be taken with a pinch of salt here because Lordstown built fewer than 40 Endurance EVs before going bankrupt. That’s despite the company claiming at one point that it had built 500 units.
The 109-kilowatt-hour battery can be DC fast-charged at 150 kW; from an AC source, it can accept up to 11 kW. However, for such a big battery, the Lordstown Endurance has a terrible energy efficiency of just 1.4 miles/kWh, leading to an EPA-rated driving range of 174 miles on a full charge.

There were also a couple of recalls that had to do with the electronic parking brake and a possible loss of power caused by a faulty high-voltage cable. Not exactly confidence-inspiring stuff.
With the company gone and its production facility shuttered, parts availability is bound to be scarce. While some mechanical components are shared with a number of General Motors pickups, the electric motors were made by Elaphe. Moreover, it’s unclear who supplied the inverter, the DC-to-DC converter, and other components. Diagnosing issues is bound to be a nightmare, too, as there is no diagnostic tool available anywhere.
The truck can tow 8,000 pounds and has a 5 ft 8 in bed, so it could be used for truck things. It can also output up to 400 W through a 120-volt outlet. But the prospect of having a brick on wheels if something goes wrong isn’t exactly enticing, and the person who is selling the truck knows it.
“I would like someone to buy this truck that is not going to drive it during the winter or down dirty and dusty roads,” the seller said in the ad. “I believe this truck is something to cherish.”
The Endurance, then, is in the same boat as the Fisker Ocean, Nikola’s hydrogen-fueled truck, Canoo’s pod-like EV, and Arrival’s battery-powered van.
