George R.R.Martin is pleased with HBO’s work on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and wants fans to see it.

As the road to production in House of the Dragon Season 3 shortens, Redanian Intelligence on X—a reliable industry source unaffiliated with HBO—reports that Nina Lopez-Corrado has joined the directors’ roster. She adds to the already formidable line-up of Miguel Sapochnik —who stepped down as showrunner—Ryan Condal, Greg Yaitanes, Clare Kilner, Geeta Vasant Patel, Alan Taylor, Andrij Parekh and Loni Peristere.

A glance at Lopez-Corrado’s filmography inspires optimism in her ability to deliver on the new season of House of the Dragon. She has been credited in many successful shows such as 2013’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, FBI: International, The Flash, The Night Agent, Perry Mason, and Supernatural. Fellow HBO series, The Last of Us, is set to join the mix. Deadline reports that the filmmaker once again caught HBO’s eye, who put her on the director’s team for the upcoming second season. The closest thing to House of the Dragon under Lopez-Corrado’s belt is perhaps The Nevers, a HBO sci-fi drama series set in Victorian England. She has also shown that she can be in for the long haul too, like on the 2008 CBS drama series, The Mentalist, where she doubled as co-producer-second-unit director on over 150 episodes.

Of course, for many fans, Lopez-Corrado’s past projects may not be the most compelling factor. Directing an episode of a successful series is one thing; doing the same with a budget-unfriendly and volatile IP like House of the Dragon is another. Besides, Season 3 of House of the Dragon follows what many—creator George R.R. Martin included—regard as an underwhelming Season 2. While Lopez-Corrado’s duties as director do not extend to writing, she, and others on the team, would be hard-pressed to prove to fans that the built-up suspense in the previous season would pay off. With Lopez-Corrado, there’s no unreasonable touting for her to be the next Miguel Sapochnik just yet; but there’s also no denying that she will make a fine addition to the team.
