A recent experience fundamentally changed my relationship with artificial intelligence (AI), transforming it from a novel curiosity into an indispensable professional tool.

Like many business disputes, it began with a letter from an attorney. The letter was misleading, accusatory, and, in my view, defamatory. My reaction was instantaneous and visceral: I was furious. I immediately sat down and hammered out a response, channeling all my indignation into a multi-page, point-by-point rebuttal that was technically accurate but dripping with sarcasm and anger. I felt a fleeting sense of satisfaction and was ready to hit “send.”

Thankfully, a cooler head — a digital one — prevailed. On a whim, I opened Google’s Gemini Pro. I first fed it the attorney’s letter and asked for a dispassionate analysis of its strategy and potential weaknesses. Then, I uploaded my own angry draft and asked for a critique.

The AI’s response was a splash of cold water. It politely pointed out that while my arguments were valid, my tone was inflammatory, and my judgment was clearly clouded by emotion. My letter, Gemini explained, would not de-escalate the situation or lead to my desired outcome. Instead, it would almost certainly provoke an equally aggressive response that could lock me into a costly and draining legal battle.

Then, I gave Gemini a new prompt: “Acting as a senior legal strategist, rewrite my response to be powerful, firm, and professional, with the primary goal of resolving this dispute quickly and favorably.”

The letter it produced was a revelation. The AI was concise, surgically precise, and devoid of emotion. It dismantled the other party’s position not with sarcasm, but with calm, irrefutable logic. The result was a far more powerful and effective document than anything I could have written in my emotional state. It was a stark lesson: AI, used correctly, isn’t just a tool for generating content; it’s a tool for enhancing judgment.

Let’s talk about how AI can steady our decisions under pressure, and we’ll close with my Product of the Week: the ROG Xbox Ally X handheld game console.

AI as Your Dispassionate Advisor and Tireless Intern

My experience is a microcosm of the revolutionary potential AI holds for improving nearly every aspect of professional work. The key is to stop thinking of it as a magic answer machine and start treating it as a team of incredibly fast, infinitely patient, and entirely unemotional advisors and assistants.

For correspondence, AI is a game-changer. Before sending any important email or letter, you can use it as a tone-checker and strategist. Prompts like, “Review this email for clarity and tone. Is it professional? Is it likely to achieve my goal of [state your goal]?” can provide invaluable feedback, catching phrases that might be unintentionally ambiguous or aggressive.

For preparing papers and reports, AI is the most powerful research assistant ever created. It can help you brainstorm outlines, summarize dense academic papers or financial reports, and identify potential gaps in your arguments. You can feed it your data and ask, “Based on this data, what are three potential counterarguments I should address in my report?”

This ability to play devil’s advocate helps you create far more robust and complete work. It allows you to move faster from a blank page to a high-quality draft, freeing up your valuable time to focus on the high-level tasks of critical thinking, editing, and strategic refinement.

    Avoiding AI Hallucination Traps

As powerful as these tools are, they come with a significant risk: AI can be a confident and convincing liar. In the world of AI, this is known as “hallucination,” where the model generates plausible-sounding but entirely fabricated information.

The most infamous examples of this come from the legal world, where attorneys have faced sanctions and severe professional embarrassment after submitting briefs to courts that cited non-existent legal cases and fictional precedents created by an AI.

Here is the cardinal rule of AI: You are the CEO of the final product. The AI is an intern; you are the editor-in-chief, and you are responsible for every word. Avoiding these traps requires a disciplined approach to how you prompt and use the technology:

    • Never Trust, Always Verify: Treat any factual claim, statistic, name, date, or citation generated by an AI as a placeholder until you have independently verified it through a primary source.
    • Use Grounding Prompts: When possible, provide the AI with the source material. Instead of “Write about the economic impact of tariffs,” a better prompt is, “Using the attached report from the Peterson Institute, summarize the key findings on the economic impact of tariffs.” This grounds the AI’s response in a verifiable document.
    • Demand Sources: Actively prompt the AI to “Provide sources for your claims.” While it can still occasionally fabricate these, it forces the model to access its retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) capabilities, which are designed to pull from real-world data, making the output more reliable.

Multi-AI Strategy: Your Personal Board of Advisors

Just as you wouldn’t rely on a single human advisor for every issue, you shouldn’t rely on a single AI.

The leading models — like Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT — each have unique strengths and “personalities” based on their training data and architecture. The most effective way to use them is in concert. Think of it as an intellectual assembly line.

First, you might use Gemini for its creative brainstorming and ability to generate a strong initial draft.

Then, you can take that draft to Claude, known for its nuanced understanding of complex language and its more cautious, thoughtful responses, with a prompt like, “Act as a skeptical editor. Review this text and identify any weak arguments, logical fallacies, or areas where the tone is inappropriate.”

Finally, you could take the revised version to ChatGPT for a final polish and check for conciseness.

By using multiple AIs to critique and refine each other’s work, you create a final product that is far more polished and robust than any single model could produce on its own.

Wrapping Up: A Final Word on AI Judgment

AI is not an autopilot for your career, but it is the most powerful copilot ever invented.

My encounter with that attorney’s letter taught me that its greatest strength isn’t its ability to write, but its ability to think — or, more accurately, to simulate a dispassionate, logical thought process that can expose the flaws in our own.

When we are too close to a problem, too invested emotionally, AI can provide the objective perspective we need.

By learning to prompt effectively, verify relentlessly, and leverage multiple models, we can transform AI from a simple tool into a true partner in judgment, enabling us to produce higher-quality work faster and with greater strategic insight than ever before.

    Tech Product of the Week

A New Contender in Portable Gaming

For decades, the portable gaming market has been largely synonymous with one name: Nintendo. From the monochrome marvel of the original Game Boy to the genre-defining Switch, Nintendo has consistently defined what on-the-go gaming could be.

Meanwhile, giants like Sony and Microsoft, despite their dominance in the home console arena, have historically struggled to carve out a significant niche. Sony’s PSP and PS Vita, though technologically ambitious, struggled to achieve Nintendo-level ubiquity, hindered by proprietary media formats and a lack of sustained first-party support.

After the Vita, Sony stepped away from dedicated handhelds to focus on PlayStation and remote play features. Microsoft, meanwhile, never pursued a handheld console at all—its strategy leaned instead toward cloud gaming and Xbox Game Pass streaming on mobile devices.

This historical imbalance, however, is being challenged by a new wave of powerful handheld PCs. Leading the charge into the latter half of 2025 is our Product of the Week: the ROG Xbox Ally X, which was released last week.

    Designed for Power and Portability

Developed in collaboration with Xbox and ASUS — and powered by custom AMD Ryzen hardware — this device isn’t just another incremental upgrade. It’s a bold statement, combining cutting-edge engineering with a clear understanding of modern gamers’ expectations for uncompromised performance, wherever they play.

At the heart of the ROG Xbox Ally X lies the formidable AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor. This isn’t just a powerful chip; it’s a marvel of mobile engineering that integrates a robust CPU and a high-performance RDNA 3 graphics architecture.

This AMD ecosystem advantage is crucial, allowing for seamless optimization and a level of graphical fidelity that truly blurs the lines between a dedicated handheld and a full-fledged gaming PC. The “AI” in its name hints at future-proofing, with integrated neural processing units (NPUs) poised to enhance game performance and potentially power new AI-driven experiences as software evolves.

When vision and execution meet, leaders choose NiCE

When it comes to raw power and performance, the ROG Xbox Ally X is a legitimate powerhouse. While it won’t entirely eclipse the very latest Xbox Series X console in every metric, it delivers a stunningly close experience for its form factor. Games that previously required a tether to a TV and console can now be enjoyed on a vibrant, high-refresh-rate display with impressive frame rates and visual settings.

This level of parity is a monumental achievement, essentially offering a highly optimized, portable Xbox experience in your hands. Battery life, a perennial concern for portable devices of this caliber, has also seen significant improvements. Asus has clearly invested in optimizing power consumption alongside beefier batteries, allowing for extended gaming sessions that don’t constantly demand a power outlet.

Design-wise, the ROG Xbox Ally X takes cues from its namesake, the Xbox controller. The ergonomics are superb, feeling comfortable and intuitive even during marathon gaming sessions. The button layout, joystick placement, and trigger feel are instantly familiar to any Xbox gamer, making the transition seamless. Asus has prioritized a premium feel, utilizing high-quality materials that convey both durability and sophistication.

The $999.99 price, while premium, positions it competitively against other high-end handheld PCs, offering a compelling value proposition given its performance and integrated software experience. A no-compromise portable gaming console isn’t going to be cheap, but this is still far cheaper than a good gaming PC rig and far more portable.

    Who It’s Really For

So, who is the ROG Xbox Ally X best for? As a holiday or birthday gift, it’s an absolute dream for the dedicated Xbox gamer who wants to take their entire library on the go without compromise. It’s perfect for students, frequent travelers, or anyone with limited access to a dedicated gaming setup. It’s also an ideal companion for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, transforming their subscription into a truly portable library.

Is it a game-changer? Absolutely. The ROG Ally X doesn’t just push portable gaming forward — it shatters the notion that handhelds must compromise on performance. It marks a true maturation of the handheld PC market, delivering a polished, powerful experience that rivals home consoles. Its success sends a clear signal to Sony and Microsoft: there’s real demand for high-fidelity gaming that fits in your backpack.

This product embodies innovation, addresses a long-standing market gap, and delivers on its promises with exceptional performance and design. It’s not just a gadget; it’s a statement about the future of gaming — untethered, uncompromised, and incredibly exciting. The ROG Ally X is the kind of device that makes you rethink where and how you play your favorite games, and it’s my Product of the Week.
