Despite the sky literally falling in over Cloud and the gang by Chapter 14 in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, it turns out they still have time to engage in a pull-up competition. ‘Wavering Heart’ is one of nine side quests in Chapter 14, and you’ll need to beat the flamboyant owner of the Honeybee Inn in Wall Market to complete it.
This side quest is similar to ‘Burning Thighs,’ the squatting challenge you may have undertaken in Chapter 9, ‘The Town That Never Sleeps.’ This one is a little more complicated than that in a few ways, however, and can be pretty tough if you want to claim all the available rewards from it. How to Beat the Wavering Heart Side Quest in Final Fantasy 7 Remake
This side quest starts in the same place you may have completed ‘Burning Thighs’: the Wall Market gym. In case you haven’t been there yet, it’s next to the Corneo Colosseum entrance.
In terms of how the mini-game works, it’s similar to the squat challenge, but a bit more mechanically complicated. Put simply, the main goal is to complete more pull-ups than your challenger, which is Andrea in the first instance. Each bout is split into two sets of 30 seconds, but you need to have the most pull-ups completed overall.
Here are the most important things to know about the competition:
- You need to match the repeating on-screen prompts, but the order is random and changes after each 30-second set, or halfway through.
- Eventually, the on-screen prompt fades, so you’ll need to remember the four-button order while maintaining rhythm.
- The pace will eventually increase, so your rhythm will need to adjust accordingly.
- If your inputs are too slow or too fast, your fatigue will build up faster and increase the chances of Tifa falling, costing you precious time. If your timing is wrong, the prompts will reappear while Tifa is getting back on her feet, showing you how far off you were.
On higher difficulties, you’ll need to hammer a certain button to keep Tifa’s hold on the bar. At this point, the on-screen prompts will reappear, with the button you need to hit repeatedly highlighted in gold. A gold circle will show how long you need to hammer the button.
You only need to beat Andrea for the quest to be ticked off, which is fairly simple, as he falls down often in your 60 seconds of total pull-up time. Around 13 reps should be enough to defeat him. Once you’ve done that, you get Way of the Fist Vol. III and ten SP for Tifa.
But, ending your exertions, there are some decent rewards on the table, and the ‘Peeress of Pull-Ups’ trophy, if you’re on PlayStation. If you beat Jay in the round after Andrea, you get Magic Up Materia, and a Champion Belt for defeating Jules, which gives the wearer 10% HP and 5% strength boosts.
