Apple has started rolling out iOS 27, bringing its latest software experience to a wide range of supported iPhone models. The update introduces several major changes, including Apple’s new Siri AI experience, additional Apple Intelligence features, app improvements and broader system-level updates.

The rollout began on September 14, although eligible users may not see the update at exactly the same time. Availability can vary depending on the iPhone model, region and existing software version. The latest iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo come with iOS 27 pre-installed.

How to Download iOS 27 on iPhone

The easiest way to install iOS 27 is through the iPhone’s Software Update section. Users need to open Settings > General > Software Update and check whether the update is available.

Before installing, it is recommended to connect the iPhone to a Wi-Fi network and a power source. Major software updates can take some time to download and install, during which the device may restart.

Users can also enable automatic updates by going to Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates. The iPhone can then download and install compatible updates automatically, typically while connected to Wi-Fi and charging.

Apple also allows users to update through a computer. On a Mac, connect the iPhone using a cable, open Finder, select the device and choose General > Check for Update. The update can then be downloaded and installed.

If iOS 27 does not appear immediately, users should check again later as the rollout may happen in phases.

iOS 27 Compatible iPhone Models

However, getting iOS 27 does not mean every iPhone will receive every new feature. Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI capabilities require newer hardware and are supported on iPhone 16 models and later, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

What is New in iOS 27?

One of the biggest additions is the new Siri AI experience. Apple says Siri can understand more natural requests and assist users with tasks across the iPhone. The improvements form part of Apple’s broader Apple Intelligence strategy.

iOS 27 also brings new AI-powered tools for photos and visual tasks. These include Spatial Reframing and an improved Clean Up feature for editing images.

Apple Maps is also getting an enhanced Flyover experience, using aerial imagery and Visual Intelligence models to provide richer views.

The Health app receives additional features, including information related to perimenopause and menopause in Cycle Tracking. Apple is also expanding GymKit functionality with the new software.

Things to Check Before Installing iOS 27

Before upgrading, users should create a backup of their iPhone through iCloud or a Mac/PC. This helps protect photos, messages, app data and settings if an issue occurs during installation.

It is also worth checking available storage. If the iPhone is nearly full, users may need to remove unused apps, downloaded files or large videos before installing the update.

Finally, users who rely on banking, payment, work or authentication apps should make sure these applications are updated and functioning properly after installing iOS 27.

Overall, iOS 27 brings the biggest benefits to newer iPhones, particularly through Apple Intelligence and the upgraded Siri experience. Older compatible models will still receive the core software, security and app improvements, although some hardware-dependent features will remain unavailable.
