Eridium returns as a usable currency in Borderlands 4, but this time, it is more than just a special kind of cash. There are new ways for players to spend Eridium, and most of them are very costly.
Players will likely get a ton of Eridium while playing the Borderlands 4 campaign, but once they gain access to the endgame activities that actually require Eridium, they might end up draining their stock. If you’re running low on this uncommon resource, here’s how you can farm for more of them.
How to Get Eridium in Borderlands 4
There are multiple ways to get Eridium, but most of them either take too long or rely too much on luck (unlike the ones in Borderlands 3). The most reliable way to get Eridium (as well as other goodies) is to complete Bounty board contracts. There are multiple bounty boards scattered throughout Kairos, with most of them being inside safe zones.
Bounty objectives differ from contract to contract, though it’s usually just a mix of the following:
- Item retrieval
- Assassination
- Enemy hunting
Assassination type contracts are the easiest to do — just head to the marked area, nuke the target, then claim your rewards. However, we still recommend taking all contracts from a bounty board and doing all of them one after the other. You’ll likely complete one or two contracts while doing something else, giving you an excellent passive source of income.
Vile Assassination Contracts
Rarely, you’ll see a purple contract instead of the usual ones. These are for assassination jobs for Vile targets — Vile enemies are the ones covered in Phase Crystals. They behave differently from their regular counterparts, and if you take one down as part of a contract, then you’ll get more rewards than usual (including a shot at getting legendary items).
Vile Assassination contracts appear randomly and at a lower rate compared to regular contracts. If you really want to get one, you’ll need to check every bounty board on Kairos and hope that one of them has a Vile contract posted. Otherwise, you’ll be better off just doing regular bounties.
You can cycle contracts on bounty boards by accepting contracts, abandoning them, then reloading the game by returning to the main menu.
Events and Activities
Eridium also has a small chance of dropping from bosses in marked endgame activities like Ripper Drill Sites, Auger Mines, and Order Bunks. World Events also have plenty of rewards for players who participate in them. If you’re just doing bounties in a region, you may also want to keep an eye on your map to see if there are any world events going on.
