As the story progresses, Sam’s objective becomes much clearer: to connect the numerous facilities in Mexico and Australia to the Chiral Network. In most cases, the facilities are far apart, and players will need to use vehicles or other forms of transportation to deliver cargo. Since not all facilities in Death Stranding 2 have access to a Private Room, players will need to build a Safe House instead. How To Unlock Safe Houses in Death Stranding 2
To unlock Safe Houses, players must connect the facilities in Australia until they reach Heartman’s Lab during Main Order 23. After completing this mission, you’ll unlock several rewards, including the Jump Ramp, Extra Battery, and the Safe House. Fabricate a PCC Lv. 2 and build a Safe House wherever you choose. The materials required to build a Safe House are:
- 300 Chiral Crystals
- 960 Resins
- 960 Special Alloys
One of the advantages of playing the game online is that you can place the initial structure of the Safe House using the PCC, and if you don’t have the required materials, you can leave it for other players to contribute and complete.
Things To Do Inside a Safe House in Death Stranding 2
Safe Houses contain Private Rooms that function exactly like the ones found in certain facilities and at the DHV Magellan. Once inside, Sam will sleep, and you’ll have the option to rest further if needed. You can customize your appearance, backpack, and even the background of the Private Room itself.
There’s also a VR Room where you can test your weapons, and a Washroom where you can use the toilet and take a shower simultaneously, granting you Chiral Crystals by extracting Sam’s bodily fluids.
Where To Build Safe Houses in Death Stranding 2
Safe Houses can be built anywhere; however, it’s best not to waste your resources on areas you don’t visit often. The game features facilities with Connection Levels that can be increased to Level 5 by completing Standard and Sub-Orders or by delivering Lost Cargo found during your deliveries. In cases where the distance between two facilities is long, it’s advisable to build a Safe House between them so you can rest and restore your hunger levels before continuing.
Since Safe Houses also offer a Garage feature, you can park your vehicles to have them repaired and their batteries recharged. In the latter part of the game, players will need to deliver cargo in a snowy mountainous region. Most of the facilities in this area only have terminals and no Private Rooms. There will be times when the DHV Magellan cannot move due to tar currents, making frostbite a risk to Sam’s health that must be treated immediately with a shower. In such cases, building a Safe House near these facilities can greatly ease your cargo deliveries.
