HUAWEI has added a new foldable to its lineup with the launch of the Mate X7 in China. Introduced alongside the Mate 80 series, the phone steps in as the successor to the Mate X6 and continues the brand’s focus on large displays, slim construction, and camera-heavy hardware.

Instead of leaning into spectacle, the Mate X7 reads more like a steady iteration on what HUAWEI’s foldable philosophy already looks like.

Display and build take centre stage

The Mate X7 ships with an 8-inch foldable OLED display on the inside and a 6.49-inch outer screen. Both panels use LTPO technology with adaptive refresh rates ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz and high-frequency PWM dimming. Peak brightness is rated at 2,500 nits for the inner display and 3,000 nits for the outer screen.

In terms of form, the phone measures 4.5mm when unfolded and 9.5mm when folded, with a weight around 235–236 grams depending on the variant. It also carries IP58 and IP59 ratings for resistance to water, splashes, and dust. HUAWEI is offering the device in five colour options, including Obsidian Black, Cloud Brocade Blue, Cloud Brocade White, Cosmic Red, and Phantom Purple, with design elements inspired by Yun Brocade craftsmanship.

    Camera hardware and imaging approach

HUAWEI has equipped the Mate X7 with its second-generation Red Maple Imaging system, which focuses on shrinking the camera module while maintaining flagship-style camera specifications. The rear setup includes a 50MP main camera with variable aperture, a 3.5x periscope telephoto lens, and a 40MP ultra-wide camera, along with a dedicated multi-spectral Red Maple primary colour camera.

The Collector’s Edition claims improved light intake compared to certain competing flagship models, although this positioning leans more toward technical differentiation than everyday user impact. Satellite communication features also differ between variants, with Beidou messaging on the standard version and additional Tiantong support on the Collector’s Edition.

    Performance, battery and software

Powering the Mate X7 is the Kirin 9030 Pro processor, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and storage configurations going as high as 1TB. The device runs on HarmonyOS 6.0 and supports features like dual SIM connectivity, side-mounted fingerprint scanning, and emergency communication even without network access.

Battery capacity sits at 5525mAh for the standard model and 5600mAh for the Collector’s Edition. Charging supports 66W wired and 50W wireless fast charging. An outdoor exploration mode is also included, which HUAWEI says is aimed at extending battery usability during extreme scenarios.

    Pricing and availability in China

The Mate X7 is now up for pre-orders and will go on sale in China starting December 5. Pricing begins at 12,999 yuan for the base 12GB + 256GB model and stretches up to 17,599 yuan for the top-end Collector’s Edition stylus bundle with 20GB RAM and 1TB storage.

In approximate terms, this places the foldable firmly in the ultra-premium segment, with direct competition likely coming from other high-end foldables across China and global markets.
