    • Dozens of limited-edition Tesla Cybertruck Foundation Series EVs are sitting in inventory.
    • Tesla is now offering free lifetime Supercharging to people who buy a truck from inventory.
    • That offer, however, has several asterisks.

Tesla is offering free lifetime Supercharging for Cybertruck Foundation Series electric pickups sitting in inventory across the country. Earlier this month, we reported that the American EV maker has dozens of $100,000+ limited-edition Cybertrucks sitting unsold at delivery centers in the United States, and this latest perk might be a last-ditch effort to get rid of the costly EVs that are collecting dust.

As a reminder, the Foundation Series models were the first to be manufactured and delivered. They were offered in the U.S. until October–when the regular models went on sale–and carried a $20,000 higher price tag. The extra money brought customers priority delivery, lifetime use of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) advanced driving assistance suite, a Powershare mobile connector and several options.

Those who ordered a brand-new Foundation Series Cybertruck did not get free lifetime access to Tesla’s Supercharger DC fast charger network, but the company is now offering it to people who want to get the angular pickup from inventory. However, there are a few asterisks involved.

According to the terms on Tesla’s website, the order must be placed on or after December 27, 2024. The promotion is “subject to change or end at any time,” which means the automaker could remove the perk overnight without notice. Moreover, the offer is tied to the owner’s Tesla Account and cannot be transferred to another vehicle, person or order, even in the case of ownership transfer.

In other words, if the car is sold, the new owner will not get free Supercharging–as is the case with some older Model S EVs–and the old owner will also not get free Supercharging on another Tesla EV. Another eyebrow-raising stipulation is that “Tesla reserves the right in its sole discretion to remove the free Supercharging from your vehicle in the event of excessive charging or unpaid fees related to Supercharging.”

While getting the perk removed for unpaid fees is reasonable enough, the “excessive charging” seems arbitrary–there’s no concrete kilowatt-hour limit per charging session or per month, so it’s impossible for an owner to know what to expect.

As of this writing, Tesla has two versions of the Cybertruck Foundation Series in inventory: the $99,990 All-Wheel Drive, which has two electric motors and an EPA-rated range of up to 340 miles, and the $119,990 Cyberbeast that comes with three motors and an EPA range of up to 320 miles.

That said, one could order a new, non-Foundation Series Cybertruck for $20,000 less and get delivery the same month. The optional extras are not included, but Tesla throws in three months of free Supercharging and a three-month trial of the so-called FSD (Supervised) feature.
