Sasuke Uchiha is one of the most important characters in the Naruto franchise. Along with Naruto Uzumaki, he is always at the forefront of things. Even according to Kishimoto himself, Sasuke is just as important to the story as Naruto. Sasuke and Naruto always progress together, and that is precisely why fans see them gain new powers around the same time.

In the Boruto series, both Sasuke and Naruto have been cast aside by the author, but that is likely going to change in the future once they do fully return. Upon their return, however, both of them would need new powers. As far as Sasuke goes, there is one ability that fans would desperately want to see him wield once again, and that is also his strongest transformation so far. This power is none other than Sasuke’s very own curse mark. While it has not appeared in the story for quite a while now, Sasuke will have to develop a way to fight against the likes of the Shinju, if they do still exist by the time he returns. If that is the case, then the only thing that can help Sasuke is natural energy, which he can derive from this unique transformation.

If there is one thing that all Naruto fans agree unanimously on when it comes to the likes of Naruto and Sasuke’s portrayal in the Boruto series, it is that they need new powers. Both Naruto and Sasuke were very strong at the beginning of Boruto, but as the story went on, the two were constantly coming under fire from the author of the story. In many ways, Naruto and Sasuke were disgraced in the Boruto series. Naruto lost access to the power of Kurama and was then sealed away by Kawaki, while Sasuke had his Rinnegan stabbed by Momoshiki and was not given a major role in the story to play for a significant period of time.
Since then, Sasuke and Naruto have both been cut out of the story entirely, and fans know that this treatment is not justifiable. At the very least, Two Blue Vortex has been somewhat better for the story, in general, which is why fans have expectations that when the time for their return comes, the author will treat them more gently and also give them the powers that they truly deserve to fight against the powerful enemies in the Boruto series. As far as Sasuke Uchiha goes, he has lost the power of his Rinnegan and fans already know that he needs something to replace what he lost. Sasuke’s Rinnegan used to be his biggest source of power, and now that it is gone, he has to turn to something else.
Recently, a power-up for Sasuke was confirmed in the Boruto manga, and that is a new scientific ninja sword. While this sword is great and will surely elevate Sasuke’s swordplay, he needs more than just that to fight against the elites of the Boruto series. As far as Sasuke’s abilities go, there isn’t much he can gain. Either Sasuke can receive a prosthetic hand to replace what he lost in the battle against Naruto, which would then give him access to more scientific ninja tools, or he can turn his other eye into a Rinnegan somehow, which would then make the whole point of Sasuke losing one Rinnegan completely redundant. The only other way is for Sasuke to get some other power that he is familiar with, and that is precisely where the Curse Mark comes in.

Right now, fans might be confused at Sasuke receiving the curse mark once again, but the idea makes a lot of sense. For starters, fans know that the main threat in the story right now are the Shinju. At the same time, it is also clear that the strongest of the Shinju, Jura, is the direct incarnation of the Ten Tails. Sasuke would realistically be back after Hidari falls, which should be before Jura falls. This means in the fight against Jura, Sasuke might actually be available.
To fight against Jura, Sasuke would need something that actually works on him, and that is where Senjutsu comes in.

Boruto Anime Reportedly Stopped Production Due To Filler Episodes
The Boruto anime has been on a hiatus. It could have to do with its filler episodes.
In the 4th Great Ninja War, it was clearly shown to the fans that the only way to truly deliver damage to the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki was to utilize Senjutsu. This is why Boruto’s Uzuhiko would be great to use against Jura and other abilities powered by Senjutsu would also be phenomenal to use against him. For Sasuke, this is where the curse mark would stem in. For those who do not remember, the curse mark is essentially made from the Kekkei Genkai of Jugo. In other words, it allows one to passively absorb natural energy from the environment and buffs them up to new levels. Of course, Sasuke would not have to be branded by Orochimaru’s mark, but would need to develop this power in a different way.
In either case, the transformation would be similar, and Sasuke would turn into a more beastly version of himself that would allow him to fight against Jura and deliver tremendous damage to him. In this way, Sasuke would not only get stronger, but fans would also see him gain a significant power-up that makes up for what he lost, but without doing so in a rather predictable or redundant manner.
Sasuke Desperately Needs A Rinnegan Replacement
At this point, fans absolutely cannot deny that Sasuke needs a Rinnegan replacement desperately, his powers are not great enough to see him fight against the biggest threats of the Boruto world. Even if Jura is somehow taken down before Sasuke even comes back, there will be other threats, such as the Otsutsuki, that he would need to fight against. He does not have what it takes to fight and defeat them, and that is precisely why a major power-up right now would be needed.

Of course, Curse Mark on its own might not take him to that level, but when combined with scientific ninja tools, Sasuke could actually go on to reach a very high level of power, and that is something fans desperately want to see in the Boruto series. The same also goes for Naruto Uzumaki. Fans want to see him utilize newer powers once he comes back and perhaps gain a new Kekkei Genkai, such as Wood Release, along with more scientific ninja tools.
At the same time, Naruto could seek out the Tailed Beast and acquire great power on his own. In either case, the next few years are going to be very important for these two characters because they could break or make their legacy.
