Lucid Delivers First Gravity Crossovers To Friends And Family

    • The Lucid Gravity will initially be offered in Grand Touring trim starting at $94,900. The cheaper Touring trim at $79,900 won’t go on sale until late 2025.
    • These first few crossovers are headed to friends, family and Lucid employees.
    • CEO Peter Rawlinson says that Gravity production is structured in a way to ensure high-quality for customers.

Lucid has been angling hard to improve its straits for the future. It’s no secret that 2024 wasn’t great. This year, only an unfortunately low number of units of the Air sedan were sold, but CEO Peter Rawlinson is trying to right the ship. Recently, the brand announced that the first handful of units of its new Gravity three-row crossover EV has rolled off the assembly line and into customer’s hands.

Well, sort of. The first few Gravity crossovers are headed to the friends, families, and employees of Lucid. “We are ramping Lucid Gravity production volume in a structured manner to ensure high-quality for our customers,” said Rawlinson, via a LinkedIn post. The rest of these early cars will go to test drive units at sales outlets – likely to make sure all the bugs are worked out. Rawlinson says that eventually, the factory will start churning out more vehicles for wider consumer consumption.

I guess this technically meets Lucid’s promise that the Gravity would go on sale by the “end of this year,” something the brand said when it officially announced pricing numbers back in the fall. Right now, all of the Gravity crossovers are coming out of Lucid’s Arizona factory in Grand Touring trim. This means they’ll all be fed by the same dual motor, 828 horsepower setup fed by a 120-kWh battery. The lower trimmed, and lower cost Gravity Touring will likely be on roads by the end of 2025.

This seems promising for Lucid, even if the rollout is a little slower than I would have expected. On paper, the Gravity seems to be just the kick in the pants the brand needs. A recent study shows that EV buyers are increasingly interested in three-row vehicles. Although the Gravity’s nearly $95,000 price isn’t cheap, it’s right on target for most EV luxury three rows Cadillac Vistiq, or even the Rivian R1S.

Lucid is really counting on the Gravity to help close its huge profitability gap and get more units on the road. The brand has done some work to the Air sedan this year. It had a substantial price cut and mild freshening that made it the most efficient EV on sale in the U.S. Also, Lucid plans on entering more markets in 2025.
